Last night (this morning) I took my 87 Trans Am and my brand new Gtech Performance meter out to this nice long stretch of road, ready to have a good time. An hour later, I was returning home, feeling a bit deflated. Here's why:

0-60: 7.9 sec
1/4 mile time: 16.6 sec
1/4 mile speed :88.5 mph
And the number that made me wanna walk home,
Horsepower: 176 :disappoin

I mean, yeah, the engine is 17 years old, and the only thing I've done to it is replace the stock air filter with a K&N, and descreen the MAF, but I was expecting at least 200hp. I'm hoping the ram air kit and the dual exhaust I have planned will help, but now just don't know.

Found this site (http://www.gtasourcepage.com/TransAmTimeLine.html) today, which shows the stock times on the Trans Am's brand new. Seems I'm only off by a sec on both 0-60 and 1/4 mile, but the HP is still disappointing...

What engine do you have in it? Also what grade fuel were you running. Fuel has alot to do with your performance...

Ok, well, 1 second off the factory time is a pretty big deal if you ran that time at a track. However, your using a g-tech. They dont always offer accurate readings, especially if you don't have them mounted exactly right. I would get it to the track or on a dyno to see what your really working with. Was the g-tech giving you wheel power reading or bhp?

Yeah, take it to the track, and hook it to the dyno, but its kinda pointless if you know that the Gtec thing is off why spend the money for the dyno? Just go put some more money into the motor and you wil be happy, but first replace that heater core, hope your carpet is ok.....

the hits just keep on coming...got the heater core out and replaced (what a bitch that was!) put the dash all back together, and now I have NO lights in the rear. No brakes, no backups, no turns, no nothing. Oh, and the car just turned 100,000 miles, for the guy who asked. Checked all the under dash fuses, all OK, aint got a clue what the prob is.

loose wire, or a wire that shouldnt be grounded, is.

take it to a track, g-techs are so off if they arent on right.

the gtechs are pretty good if you have all the info in the perfectly but you need to know all the info.

1 sec off you could just be launching your car differently than they did. what was your 60' time on the gtech
