2000 Civic Si HELL!

You want to hear somthing amusing? I bought a 2000 Civic Si (used) from a friend. I knew he drove it hard but I figured hey its relatively new and its an Si so its designed for that sort of thing. After reading in here about the 3rd gear syncro going out I was like damn thts to bad. Then 2 weeks later MINE WENT OUT! So I took it into Honda (Holler in Orlando VERY NICE PEOPLE!) and the lady there told me she would order me the parts. While I was in there, another Si was going in for his 3rd gear syncro for the 5th time he said. They were looking into Lemon Law stuff. Honda big wigs were arguing that it was the way he drives (he had headers intake and exhaust so they assume he drives like an ass) so the parts came in and I took it in a 2 days later I went to pick it up and I noticed the windshield had cracked! It wasnt from the inside or the outside so it was a defect in the glass! But I didnt car cause the tranny felt like Heaven! I was so happy I looked passed the cracked windshield (Holler offered to pay for it THEY ARE SO NICE!) So then I drove my car to Gainesville the next day and I had cruise on at about 90mph (5500 RPM) the whole way and it was fine! On the way back I did the same and it was fine until I got 2 minutes from my house and the tranny starting making a weird whinny noise I called Honda and they made me tow it in! It turns out they put the tranny together wrong and a clutch bearing fell out into the tranny! It seized my tranny!
Well now I am pissed off at this point and I just turned 18 so there policey is that they wont rent t me! My mom was out of town at the time and so she couldnt give me her car and get a rental! I was stranded. So Holler pulled some strings and called my insurance company and got me approved for a rental. I am now driving a 2002 Passport for a few weeks. THIS SUX!
Should I sell my Si? I am looking into getting a new Ex What do you guys think?

Stick with it man, you've just had a bit of bad luck. Once the tranny is fixed it'll be Happy Days and you'll be glad you stuck with it. Sometimes bad luck comes in a run, example :
My friend, has a Seat Ibiza(not important). Anyway, the following happened in the space of 3 weeks :
- he closed the hatch and there was a kayak paddle in the car, it made contact and shattered the windshield
- a few days later someone reversed into the side of his car in a car-park and left before he got back...
- a week later a tree fell onto the roof of his car!!!!
Now that's some bad luck, cheer up :silly:

Don't ditch the Si... The 3rd gear synchro is VERY common to go out in B-Series engines... in fact, all of my friends (including me) have a grinding 3rd gear with B-Series. It's a rediculas problem that should have been recalled. Anyway, things will look up. At least your 2000 Si still has a warrenty, I bought mine with 36,250 on the odometer :(

That's too bad... I haven't had any problems with my 2000 Si, period. I wouldn't sell the Si for an Ex. Keep it, get it fixed and all will turn out good.:D

I can relate. My Si went in at the beginning of January for the 3rd gear issue. It took two days for the repair. Now the reverse grinds when I'm at a complete stop. Even when pulling out of the garage for the first time. The 3rd gear still isn't resolved. I get a light grinding. Its enought to make me want to sell it. I had 98 EX prior and had no issues. Even when it had N2O on it!
There is a Service Bulletin about the tranny issues. I'll see if iI can dig it up.

I would just keep the Si and get a new tranny if you have to. It's not worth going back a step to the EX because you wont be as happy with the EX as you would with the Si. :D

Y guess yo are righ I love the car but I hate all of the bad luck I have been having lately. But, I felt a little better when I saw a red Si beng brought into Honda on a flat bed with no wheels. Some ass holes stole his wheels and dropped it on the cement. Well I am only 18 years old (just turned on Jan 22) and I cant have this shit! :( but I am also feeling good about a deal I am getting, white C7 17" with tires for $800 New!
I hate this damn Isuzu Passport! I feel like when I stop my head is going to go through the widshield! I want my Si Back!
Should I get a new tranny? (NON Si) like a GSR or somthing?

You will have the same problems with any B-Series tranny. I have a grinding 3rd gear, my friend with a B16a3 has the same problem, friend with a B18a has the same problem, his girlfriend with a B18a has the same problem, etc. etc. It's a common problem you can't get around.

BrokenLimits: Sorry to hear about your problems. Do you ever hang out at the Sonic's on I-Drive (Sat. nights)?

I never heard of this whole tranny problem until now, kinda sucks really. Is it totally unavoidable, or could changing your shift technique help the situation?
Also, is this a problem on D series manual transmissions as well?

I never have any tranny problems. I think it is all in how you shift, and how often you mess up your shifts.
Quality never hurt anything.

I am not hard on my tranny, the guy before me who had it was. I think power shifting (not releasing the throttle when shifting) is a major contributing factor but...I stillthink it is unavoidable over time. If you havent had the problem yet TAKE IT IN AND FIX IT BEFORE IT IS OT OF ARRANTY BECAUSEI GARUNTEE YOU WILL!!!!

It doesn't occur in all Si's. But it occurs enough to have Honda publish a service bulletin about it.

shoot, you want to hear something else amusing? my 2000 SI blew the engine at 34k miles (#4 piston cracked, and the connecting rod shattered) and all that i have done is intake/exhaust (both AEM). Honda denied my warranty claim because the "10-15% increase in horsepower is too much for my engine". That's what the district service manager told me. BULLSHYT!!! Vortech puts a supercharger on a stock si @ 10 pounds boost and they run fine for 100K at least.
I have an arbitration date on august the 8th with honda via the better business bureau. Does anyone have any info that might be useful? like someone else you know that has had something like this happen?
BTW... i bought my SI brand new, and had to have the 5th gear synchro replaced after a month.
and ONE MORE THING that just really pissed me off... my car's been sitting at the honda dealer for the past month, and some arseholes broke into it late sunday night, destroyed my dash trying to steal my cd player (which they coulndt get) and stole about 2 grand worth of stuff.
I'm really getting sick of this car.

You'd have to fix the engine first. needs a new block, and should run... i might sell it, i havent really decided yet.
