Hey guys. Since this is the 3000gt forum I assumed you all know alot about them. I was wondering if in your opinion it would be possible to find a base 3000gt with around 150k miles, standard, for under $3000?

I know it would definitely be a 1991 or 1992 but I was just wondering if you guys think I could ever find one in the new england area. $3000 is my limit, my dad is buying a car for me and I'm looking at 1994+ integra's, 1992+ prelude's, 1994+ celica gt's, but I like the all around package of the 3000gt the best with the power, looks, and interior. Thx in advance for all responses.

I live near boston and I have seen a 96 base auto with 160k going for 2600, If you want to spend a little more to get a better car you can buy mine lol but its a 95 SL manual loaded with all the options with 100k so it's probably out of your price range, I'm asking 7500, I've babied it and 85% of the miles I put on it are highway.

But if the limit if 3000 is a problem i'm shure you can find one for that amount here in NE, even a 94+, just make shure to take it to a mechanic to get it checked out since it'll have all those miles.

with that kind of cash to spend, you'll have high probability of buying a pretty beat up 3kgt. I got mine for $5,500 and it needed about $4,000 worth of suspension and engine parts to be fixed on it. Honestly for that kind of cash an integra may be a more practical choice but if you can find a 3kgt then happy day

i just bought my second 3000gt and i robbed the guy blind. the KBB was like 8k and the guy was gonna finance it at 6k. but just jokingly i offered 4k cash cus that was pretty much all i had and the moron said sure... so i ended up with a 95' base with only 98k miles on it. almost fully loaded ....perfect paint..and not a problem with the engine.

Damn, if that 96 was a manual, I'd be all over that lol. Too bad but if anyone is selling or knows someone who is selling for under 3k and its a manual, plz let me know. It would hafta be within 100 miles of Hartford, ct tho, boston would be the max I would go.

suprachica779, I don't think buying a base model with 150K miles is a good decision. As PearlGT pointed out, you'll probably end up paying a lot getting it back to good running condition. Either way, good luck with your search.

Yea, I'm mainly going for honda's n toyota's n those are more reliable than mitsu's, I forgot that for a bit lol. I'm jsut used to looking for cars with 150k or less

a honda would probably be the best way cause mitsus are really expensive to fix. and with that many miles you could get a honda and it will still rund good

Check out stealths, they seem to run a little cheeper for the same thing. And first gen R/T's look awsome.

If u cant find a 1st gen R/T then im sure u can find an ES

Whats the difference between the RT and the ES?

StealthModifier

Different trim levels. The R/T is the higher one.. plus different body types

Won't do a stealth ever, chrysler product and we don't do american, much less chrysler lol. I doubt my dad would let me get a mitsu anyways cuz he knows their reliabilty records. It was jsut a thought if I found a great deal really.

Thing is mitsu made the stealth also, at least the engine/drivetrain and thats the important part. And also it was mitsubishi's flagship car like the vette is for chevy (I would never buy a chevy but I would buiy a corvette lol) car companies put so much into making them sooo cool and put quality enginered parts in them to achieve that end. The on;y thing you have to be wary of is if somone was beating on the car (like I do mine) otherwise you'll be ok.... except for the trany lol but thats because of the beatings they take.

Just my two cents....I like Mitsu's and I dont' understand why people have as many problems as they do. The automatics need to have the fluid changed every 30,000 which I know that most people dont do, the cars are not gas hogs, and the engineering is sound. With the 3000 however, you do have to keep on schedule with the Timing Belt, Water Pump and asssociated parts every 60,000 miles. That is the engineered life span of those parts. Usually ends up being around $400-$500 in parts alone. Labor could easily run into a grand. I know because my friend was going to have me show him how to do it to his 95 SL which was leaking coolant, from the water pump at 55,000 miles. They are not bad cars, however, you may end up paying some money in preventitive maintenance costs. Besides, your insurance would be through the roof for a 3000. Even if you are female. For $3000, and assuming you want to have a car you can mod out and work on yourself, I would suggest a 90-93 Honda Accord or a 93-98 civic. I like preludes also but they are getting up there in price. Hondas tend to have lower parts cost, and the engineering is straightforward. I also like Nissan Sentras and 240's although I think the 240 is becomming way to overrated for me. As for other Mitsu's, I like the 95-98 Eclipse's(Eagle Talon, same car don't be fooled by a nameplate). If you have other specific questions about a particular car, just ask. I should say though that I'm not much for Toyota, they are not bad vehicles, in fact my friend has a 99 Corrola that we did a real nice job with. I just don't think they have much in the low budget category. But they run for a long time, that's for sure. Hope this helps your decision -Chris

I own a 95 3000GT SL, it is my first car and I amd 19 and I live next to boston (which pushes insurance up because of how we Massholes drive), I pay $2000 a year in insurance, thats not much is it? If it is I guess everythings relative :icon16:. I also asked for a quote of a civic and camry of the same year and they were both only about $400 less.

I kno alot about eagle talon's, was in lvoe with them for a couple years til I figured out how bad mechanically they are lol. I like the back end of them alot more than the eclipse and for some reason, they aren't as well known I think. But in any case, My 2 main cars right now are the prelude and integra. Hoping I can find one somewhat close to me for my budget but we'll see. My test date jsut got pushed back for my license anyways so I have an extra 3 weeks to play with.

Yea but mine had it's 60k tune up done allready (at 100k kinda early!), new sport tires and a great matance record (he gave me a big file with all the shit done and it was well kept).

Im not much for the integra only because parts cost is a little more than a honda.....same car company for crying out loud, but I guess some people stand to make some money off of a nameplate. If your thinking about either Prelude or Integra, personally I would go Prelude first, but hold out for a nice one. One that hasnt been raped by someone else first. My friend has a 94' Prelude SI with the DOHC 2.3L. I had to change out the timing belt and the transmission fluid, but the cost of maintainance is low, fun factor is high. It's a solid car with a nice interior. His is red with black interior, no mods. Real slick. The only thing I may say between the two is that the Integra might be a little more forgiving in the passenger department. That is if you want to have back seat drivers....
