GSR Vs Trans-am Who wins...

Hey I need imput and instead of asking in the normal board I figured I'd post it in the race section since it's about wanting to race. A guy I know is obsessed with wanting to race my Trans-am and he drive a 1998 GSR. I know the GSR has 170 horse, and I know mine has 275 and almost 3x's as much torque, so here's the thing. He's got an Intake and Exhaust, and is soon adding a 75 shot of Nitrous. He keeps claiming and laughing at all these parties about how he's gonna beat me by second gear and I just laugh. I figure the intake and exhaust is good for MAX 15 horse total. So yeah with the Nitrous that runs him around 265. But still crappy torque numbers. I figured I'd ask on the Integra forums because you know these cars best. What do they run in the 1/4 mile and should I even waste my gas.. Thanks!

His car will be fast with a 75 shot but I think you'll still win.

keep in mind thats 170 at the crank. It will only put down like 14-150 at the wheels. you still shouldnt have a problem

Your trans-am should have no problem. Just as long as you can
drive your car to the max it should be be all good for ya.

Well, if you have 275 hp that means that you are the proud owner of a LT1 trans am and that you need to make sure that you drive a good race. The torque difference only comes into play off the line and through 1st gear....then it becomes a hp battle. Sure the Integra has less hp, but it also has less weight. Let us know how it turns out...and be sure to get a good launch...if you don't, you won't be happy.

Hey, a fellow LT1 owner! Just know that you'll smoke him...You might however, look into picking up a set of good rear tires, Firestone Firehawks are good and not too expensive. You're going to spin off the line if you launch decently, those will help you hook up sooner. I'm guessing your mostly stock, but in my Z28 with i/h/e, 4.10s, and 1.6RR, I can spin all the way through first and through most of 2nd as well on my plain ol' street tires.

Well, you've definetly got the advantage over him in the torque department.
LT1's are VERY well known for their LOW END torqie, as opposed to the LS1 which makes more at the topend.
Your main concern should be all focused in the launch.
Personally, I think that is what it's going to come down to.
I don't doubt that your buddys going to be stupid and spray off the line.
In ANY car without traction, especially a FWD car, that's a MAJOR "no no".
I have a feeling with a good set of tires (the best are Nitto 555R Drag Radials) you should be able to beat him.
See, what is going to happen is you're going to put some distance between the 2 of you off the line. The more you can get ahead, the better. He will start to pull on you towards the end I think, but will it be soon enough?

So, you want my opinion on what you should do?
Well, here ya go:

1) Talk a little shit to your friend. Get him nervous. Tell him that you're going to put a TON of cars on him off the line, and he's gonna have to spray off the line if he even THINKS he's going to keep up. (Try to encourage him to spray out of the hole!) When the 2 of you are at the line, try to intimidate him the best you can...Do anythign youcan to try and get HIM to fuckup, especially with his launch!

2) Try and get yourself some good tires. Like I said, Nitto 555R's would work BEST. With a nice burnout to get 'em sticky, you won't have ANY problems with traction.

3) Try to make the race somewhat short. This will help you, since you are going to take an early lead. The shorter the road, the less time he'll have to regain traction and begin catching up.

4) Get YOURSELF a nitrous kit. A TNT wet kit would work WONDERFUL, and you could spray a 100shot SAFELY. Unlike your buddies GSR which is cutting it close with a 75 shot, you can spray a 100 and STILL be safe!

Well, this is about all I can think of for now.
Good Luck!

a definate thumbs up on the nitto drag radials. Those things rock and they still get good traction in the rain.
