finally got fender painted

YES!!!! finally the fender that I bought last spring is painted... doesn't look half bad either considering I did it with cans and I ran out of base coat:banghead:. oh well. I'll post pics later if I can find my camera...(sucks went on a trip last week and now I cant find it:mad:) anyway I'll try and get a before and after pic up.


By the way... painting with a can sucks... doesn't lay the paint down as nice as a gun, oh well this leads me to my next point. seeing as I have a few cars I would like to spray along with a number of farm/construction equipment this year I want to get a gun but I have no idea what brands are good and what to look for any suggestions?

i think you want a hvlp gravity fed...i'm pretty sure thats the one ppl always want to get.

if you can't get the gun and compressor for a while.. a useful tool is this snap on gun thing for rattle cans.. it just snaps into the lip ontop of the spray can and gives you a handle and a trigger.. HELPS VERY much with getting a more even consistent spray. deffinitily worth it

well I've had the compressor for years, and I already have a paint sprayer that I use for houses, it has a large canister that sits on the ground and you just drop in the gallon cans and then a pick up tube sends it up through a hose to wherever you are on a ladder with the gun. However I assume this gun wouldn't give satisfactory results on cars seeing as it sprays relatively thick.
Anyway yeah the gravity feed is what I'm looking for as it seems to be what I see most autobody shops use, I just wasn't sure if there was anything to watch for when buying one, or if particular brands make crappy ones to steer clear of.

i dont like that color to much ide prefer a bronze or a black pearle

best brand by far: DeVilbiss - expensive but worth it

If you buy a paint gun do not buy Sears or AutoCraft or anything else

Only use Devilbiss equipment or equivalent. The accessories & filters are just as important as the original/initial equipment

Paint brands that are good: PPG, Sikkens, Endura (high temp), etc

painting equipment quality - if you have equipment and experience and already paint farm eqipment you should be good. look for the same qualities that make your own eqipment good.

consider -

do you need a spray gun or a touch-up gun? -
a touch up-gun is for fine small work - much better for edges...
a spray gun is for regular auto paint materials

do you have water filter in air lines? (moisture is bad)
do you have pressure control on the compressor?
does the gun flow and clean easy?
how expensive and available are replacement parts? - don't buy a cheap brand
is the gun made of good quality materials? (metals)
is the gun easy to handle?
is the spray pattern and pressure suitable for you?
is the hose attachment positioning to your liking?
does the gun hang/balance well in your hand?
do you like the gun and accessories and sales/service?
