hey all this is my first post EVER so bear with me. The story is that i have 90 honda accord sitting at home as a project car. My intention was to replace everything on the car with performance parts of course, and put a cheap skyline bodykit on it to make it as close to a skyline as i could get it because thats the car i crave but can't have. The only problem is that my pricelist is climbing past 13,000 and im just 18 going into college and shitty part time jobs don't leave me with 13,000 just laying around...until i rob the bank :naughty: ....newho a couple of weeks ago at work (boring as all hell...so im on the internet all the time) i stumbled upon AF and got to reading about the 240sx and how similar it is to the skyline. Around here all i see are the 90-94 model so i guess i didnt notice the similarity. So this got me to thinking about throwing the honda out the window and starting over with the 240sx with a rb26dett. The benefits of this would be rwd, handling, skyline engine (always good) which can handle the power increases. At first i would keep the engine and car stock as i would be broke....but would a stock 240sx with a stock rb26dett be as fast as my upgraded honda??? I have a lengthy pricelist that i would let you guyz see....but i dont know how to attach it to this post????? I think i have come to the conclusion that im going to go with a 240sx with a rb26dett but i donno if i should go with a r33 or r34 clip....and a 5spd or 6spd......and awd or rwd!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I would like to go with r34 6spd awd but ive been hearing that the 6spd has durability problems....is this true??? I have also been reading that if i do all this i mind as well make the car rhd while im at it because it wouldnt be much more work......Forgot to mention that this is a father son project too......attempted project. With my honda i had everything picked out and knew exactly what i was gonna do but now with the nissan im starting from scratch.... I know that you other guyz in this forum know a lot more about the 240 than i do and your knowledge and great wisdom (kiss ass) would be greatly appreciated!!!!

yea just look around in other posts. youd have to have put all that 13K into motor work to beat a RB26 240 in an accord well not really but they haul ass.
easier swap is RB25DET and the 5spd using the RWD.
wow you could have read that all your self had you scearched. be happy i didnt go off i do that alot =)

well the 91-94's 240sx's don't share any similarity to skylines. It's the 95-96 zenkis that bare some resemblance to the r32 skyline. As far as an accord tryin to look like a skyline, that's just travesty. And like acesnyper said, RB25DET is a better fit than the twin turboed RB26

its going to be about twice as much to build up a 240sx compared to an Accord. Accord parts are DIRT CHEAP

Yea i know that the accord is the cheaper way to go. But i was gonna leave the 240sx stock and the rb stock for a while until i had some money to throw around. If i had that much done, that car would rape anything where i'm from. Im starting a second job and so hopefully that will bring in enough income to start upgrading the 240sx.......I'm starting to work on the pricelist for that now and so far its pretty similar prices...until it comes to the engine...then its gonna big expensive, but i figure....go big or go home.....if ur not gonna do it right the first time mind as well not do it at all. thats why i switched from the accord to the sx cuz of the benefits.

Your 13000 pricelist is going to be gone just buying the car and swapping a RB26 in. My suggestion, forget the RB26 and put an RB20 or 25 in if you really want the skyline engine. If not, just stick with the engine you have.

i have a 96 240sx lined up for 1200 with some tranny problems and some cosmetic damage....but if im doing the swap it wont matter....i also have a rb26dett clip lined up for 5500....but im not sure about that....the guy hasnt gotten back to me on that yet. Plus im assuming im going to need various other parts to get it to work. Plus custom work that we should be able to do for the most part. Ive read other threads about what you all need but some people say one thing and others say another, so i dont know exactly what all im gonna need after the clip but i will find out when i get to it i guess. unless someone that has done a swap before knows???

I have a 240sx, but a well done honda car would be nice too. There are too many annoying riced out hondas and creating an accord like http://ppg-lantis.s6.xrea.com/eunjoy_honda2002/honda02.htm
might be a nice change from all the other skyline wannabe hondas I see. Whichever way you choose, thank you for coming to your senses and not creating a bastarded version of a skyline by throwing on a kit on the accord. You would have been the laughing stock of the road and that would have been unfortunate b/c you seem to have a genuine respect for skylines. Anyways, you might want to also think of what sort of driving you are going to do b/c accords and 240sx's offer different things depending on whether you want to do track racing, drag, drift etc.
Either way good luck with the project.

i would go with the rb25 if i was you
the rb20 is nice but they are gettting older and much more costly to upgrade and what not, plus the price in work to drop it in is fairly close to the rb25 well at least for me
the rb26 to make it fit you would have like no money left for anything else espcially if your going into college, you would have to keep that engine stock for a while not by choice but because cost

Props for your project, I truly believe, if you are serious in performance, RWD is the way to go. Post the progress, and Pics.
Lets just put it this way, dispite the similarities of the S14 and Skyline, you can just forget the AWD setup, it ain't going to happen, anything is possible, but installing the AWD will cost no less than 25K. You can choose which power plant you want, RB20, RB25 or RB26.
I just find it pointless for the RB20, now the RB25 is cheaper, and seems to have a bigger after market following as the RB26 is newer. Secondly, unless switching to RHD, I've heard you have to give up the TT setup for a single Turbo, due to steering shaft.
Try checking the FAQ, there is tons of info on this, or use the search, theres' tons of info on this, or ask Dekand, he has an RB25, his looks cool.
Good Luck.

Dropping in an RB25 or 26 is the same except that with the RB26 you need to either convert to single turbo, or get some custom downpipes, McKinney and Bumble Bee sell them. You also need a RB25 oilpan and tranny. I'm pretty sure those r the only diffs between 25 and 26.

sr20...i think logik meant installation wise there pretty much the same amount of work. I was also reading the FAQ about installing the rb engine in a sx and how they made there own intake manifold and downpipe.....my dad has done custom manifolds before (used to pull tractors....hick thing) so i should be covered for that area......SHO411 how come it would cost near 25k to make it AWD??? If i have the whole front clip and im NOT paying for the labor then how come it would cost so much??? Plus i live in Wisconsin so i doubt there is a shop close enough for me to haul the car to when i do run into problems. I would like to use a rb26dett w/6spd awd...even if i am crazy.....so then would i want to make it RHD just to make it easier and fix the problem with the steering shaft??? My car would be a daily driver a little track use for fun...and rarely drifting. and im hoping maybe someday car shows if its worthy.

thats y i said rarely logik....i know awd is to prevent drifting but if you read this chunk of this article...im sure everyone who knows skyline has read this article already... http://www.jbskyline.net/R34/GTR/index3.php ..... says that the awd system allows drifting. Not sure if it applys when i have it in the 240sx but my intentions are not drifting in the first place....just once in a while to mess around. Does anybody know if anyone has done what i want to do to my car???? why would it cost 25k to make it awd....me and my dad are doing all/most the labor???.....I figure if i have the whole front clip...then i can just gut the 240 and make the awd work......but im just hoping it would be that easy....(shit in one hand and wish in the other...)

I thought you didnt have money, so why are you talking about getting awd, anyone here will tell you that shit is expensive. If you want to know why it is so expensive it because of the ammount of skyline parts you need, not included in a front clip most of the time. And also the ammount of fabbed. parts.
If you want a good car, go with the 240 and either get a turbo on the ka or sr20. if you and you dad do the work it will be the most cost effective way to get a car that will get all the pre teen girls wet.

WOW that is amazing u and ur dad better be damn good at what yall do when it come to cars cause putting a rb26dett and also making the 240 awd is a hell of a stretch. if i was u i would just drop the rb25 in there and keep it rwd so i could still drift but hey im not u so have fun running into ur numerous problems that you will encounter over the many many months it takes u to do this project if u do actually suceed. as negative as i sound i really do wish u the best of luch if u do try to put the rb26 awd in the 240 and i want to see pics if u pull it off

hey guys i just wanna say thanks for not goin off on me like in other threads.....at work i was reading a really old thread from 03' bout some kid that wanted to do a s14 to s15 conversion....and it ended up turning into a big cock fight over a ridiculus question....got me to thinking.....cuz im realizing that my project is pretty ridiculus too!....I thought that somebody has already done a awd swap into a sx...but apparently not.....but that old thread also brought up another good point. they were bitching about how all these people are just jumping on the bandwagon and getting JDM cuz everyone else is and how its not unique anymore. Well if i did pull off the awd would that be a first....would that be unique??? Hell i dont even know if the benefits would be worth the effort....maybe ill just go with a rb25 with rwd to make it more simple.

or you could do rb26dett w/ an rb25det tranny to make it RWD. Of course rb26dett is more work and more expensive but it is a better engine, considering you have a lot of money to put in it

I think the S14 is the place to start making a Skyline look-a-like but I would strongly advise keeping the KA24DE unless you are hell bent on the JDM engine. Stock for stock the RB has greater performance than the KA but compare the RB (you said $5500) to a wisely tuned KA with the same amount invested and you'll find the KA to be more potent. Observe the following:
S14 (stock)
16.3 sec @ 86 mph
+ straight pipe replacing cat. (I can get away with this in Texas, don't know about Wisconsin)
cost: $20 from muffler shop
16.0 sec @ 88 mph
performance investment: $20
+ remove engine fan from front of engine (only if your car has an electric one too, the fan weighs about 4 lbs, effect is similar to light pullies but far cheaper, I've had no over heating in Texas)
cost: $0
15.8 sec @ 89 mph
per. inv.: $20
+ S-AFC and retune (I did this with no EGT or AF readings; if you have a good ear for what is going on in the engine you won't need them but its way safer to use them)
cost: $400 (wide band EGO w/ AF gauge: $300, pyrometer w/ gauge: $100, so you could say "cost: $800" if you want these too)
15.6 @ 90
per. inv.: $420
+ exhaust (you could get the same results at this point with a performance muffler only because the exhuast gas volume won't be much higher than stock; to make things simple we'll assume you buy a cat-back system; I know there are more cost effective mods that we could install at this stage but moddifying exhaust early on is my philosophy)
cost: $500
15.3 @ 92
per. inv. $920
+ header
cost: $400
15.2 @ 93
per. inv.: $1320
+ short intake (move your battery to the driver's side and the MAF/cone filter to the passenger side)
cost: $100
14.9 @ 94
per. inv. $1420
+ Stillen S1 cams
cost: $600
14.7 @ 97
per. inv.: $2020
+ turbo; 5 psi; no intercooler
cost: $1400
13.7 @ 104
per. inv.: $3420
+ FMIC (intercooler)
cost: $600
13 @ 108
per. inv.: $4020
+ boost; 7 psi (intercooler allows higher boost)
cost: $0
12.6 @ 112
per. inv.: $4020
+ Ford Cobra MAF w/ big injectors; 12 psi
cost: $800
11.9 @ 118
per. inv.: $4820
So now spend the remaining money as you see fit. This could be achieved for less money than I've shown here if you really like bargain hunting. I know that to actually get figures like these you'll need more traction than the stock tires and differential offer. I'm simply comparing KA to RB. Now lets look at what you may expect from the RB26DETT w/ AWD conversion.
13.0 sec @ 106
cost: $5500 (before labor and extranious parts needed)
If an AWD S14 if your dream car...It can be done. I've seen one; I believe it was originally built by Unstable Hybrids. Further, this will be cheaper than your real dream of a GT-R. The reason I present the option of the stock-block KA-T is because I believe one of the first things you brought up was a lack of liquid assets to use in the project and the KA-T is by far the most cost effective way to get big performance from a USDM S14. Let me also say this; when you get your 240sx and start researching ways to get more power you'll run into many different opinions and it will seem easier to "just get a more powerful engine". Its true that anyone with a hoist, welder, basic shop tools and knowledge can perform an engine swap but really for your time and money the KA-T will deliver better results. May God aid you in your decision and your labor.

DWF your my friggin hero?????.....thanks a ton for doing all of that....im sure u had that figured out already but still. the last couple days ive been changing my mind about engines/trannies that i want to do....one day i say im gonna go all the way...then other days its the rb25 and last night i ran into an old friend who is opening his shop and his friend just happens to have an extra sr20 because he drifts......imagine that.....so now im debating of just going the easiest/fastest/cheapest route and sticking the sr20 in my car. Its smaller displacement....but lighter and puts out as much or more than the KA so then y not??? or am i thinking about it the wrong way? DWF i completely agree about the air and exhaust.....its the easiest/cheapest way to free up horsepower by letting all the gases flow better. But y do you suggest moving the air filter to the other side??? Kind of off topic....but i have my pricelist of my honda saved as a exel file......is there anyway to attach to the post....because now that im changing cars i donno what companies to choose cuz now NISMO and HKS and other big names come into mind and i was wondering if i should just use the same companies for my sx. Another off topic question but ive been looking at getting some tein coilovers that are Compatible with their new EDFC (electronic Dampening) and im finding out that it would be cheaper to get air ride then to go with the coilovers.......is air ride better/ worse then coilovers???? would i benefit having the coilovers or air ride....i guess i havent really read up on air ride....Also does the sr20 come with a stock intercooler?

i would scrap the rb ideas and go with an sr20det....they have more aftermarket support then you know what to do with. the rb's are to costly and not as easy to get parts for. you need to consider those things. an sr can give you some nice hp numbers for a much cheaper cost and they are very easy to swap...just food for thought

keep sucking his dick, im sure he's enjoying it.
lol jp
dwf, im sure ka is cheaper and shit, but have you ever thought about how uncomfortable it is to have such a high powered i4?
personally, id much rather have an rb due to the 6 cylinders, therefore a much much smoother powerband....but thats my opinion. id rather not drive a full blooded race car down the road.
btw youll need waay waaaay more parts than what you listed to get 11s.

i agree i dont see 11's at 12psi. i built a couple ka turbo setups and have many hours of labor in them, they usually hit mid 12's which is nice, its not overkill and you can still drive it daily if you like

mid 12's would be fast enough for the competiton around here....but y stop there right???....around my area there is a ton of hmongs that have there parents buy them a civic or an accord and they stick tips on them and a bodykit and they think that they own the roads! One of the smaller reasons why im doing my car is to prove a point to them that their cars are all show and no go. Makes me mad that they think that by making there car look cool will make their car will go faster. Nothing against the hmongs in any way but yea they anger me for that fact sometimes. There are a few people around here that have there shit straight and have fast cars and my hats off to them for knowing a thing or 2. My real competition in La Crosse is a supposedly 700hp trans am, saleen mustang, and a nsx......those are the guyz im not gonna mess with for a while.

also you need to realize that no matter what you do, you'll never have the fastest car, theres always someone else who has a faster one, so you need to set a realistic goal for a hp number and work towards that like i think 390 is about the spot of my s14 its what i shot for, just shy of 400, and im happy as hell cause i can still run off pump gas and drive my car anywhere. and still stomp a viper on the highway......stupid slow vipers ha.......

besides if i go thru with the rb25...then it would be able to produce the 700hp mark neways...then it would run with the trans am

In page 2 of this thread I listed stages of build up for the KA24DE. In an early stage I installed headers and then in a later stage went to a turbo set up. The reason for this is that I was listing stages that you might do from one paycheck to the next; obviously if you just save up and jump to the final stage in one step, you wouldn't even buy the header. Further, I'd like to address the questioning of the times that I've stated. The times I stated were for a fully loaded S14 (about 3200lbs) and the final stages of engine modification that I stated make plenty of power for an 11 second run. The problem you would run into is that the stock suspension and tires won't make plenty of traction for an 11 second run and you'll have the same problem if you simply install a more powerful engine. I believe I said to achieve these times you will need upgaded clutch, differential, and tires. If you look around you can find 240s w/ turbocharged, but otherwise stock KAs, that run mid-to-high 12 on 5-7 psi. Some of these cars don't even have a true turbo manifold but rather a 'J' shaped pipe coming off the stock collector. The turbo sits on top of the "J pipe" so that gravity drains the oil back to the pan; the exhaust travels down a more conventional down pipe to a slightly moddified pipe before the catalytic converter. This set up has 3-5 feet between the exhaust ports and the turbo so you can bet there is a tremendous loss compared to a short turbo manifold; even so these cars can pull high 12s. High power from low boost is achieved by carefull tuning, any dummy can run the boost up and run a rich mixture. A skilled tuner though, can achieve the same power with about 2/3 the boost. Its all about tuning. I have a 1991 S13 I like to tinker with from time to time. The KA is original and has some 228K miles and since I see no need to rebuild or replace in the near future I go ahead and run it hard. The only mods are straight exhaust, no engine fan, no interior behind the front seats, and an older style S-AFC. I've retuned the igntion timing and fuel curves to what felt, sounded, and smelled to be optimum. The car weighs right at 2800 lbs with 8 gallons of gas and myself in it. Take a moment to guess how fast I can run and then I'll tell you. I bet you're thinking 15.5-16 seconds, right? I tell you the truth, the fastest I've yet run is 14.708 s @ 95.4 mph on 205/60 R15s and a launch rpm between 2000 and 2500. Seriously, I'm still on the stock intake box pulling high 14s and you don't think a well tuned, cammed, and turboed KA w/ 12 psi boost could make enough power for high 11s, even if the whole car weighs 3200 lbs? It would be in the ball park of 400 BHP and have a HP/LB ratio better than that of a Viper. Do the math, then decide.

the hmong's are the vietnamese that live in the mountains, they are typically considered lower class in Vietnam and are considered rural people. Think of the rednecks/hicks in America, that live in the mountains.
The highest rwhp I've seen a KA push is 612, and yea I don't think it can match up to a fully built trans am either seeing how it has more than double the amount of displacement and cylinders.
Fastest car I've heard of was a corvette in Ft Lauderdale, it was made all out of fiberglass, ran 6 secs. I don't think imports can really match domestic engines when fully built up, american engines just got the displacement and cylinders over imports. Sure you can say imports make up for it with a turbo, but domestic engines can have forced inductions just as easily. Really as much as I hate to say it, there is no replacement for displacement. RB26's are great engines and all, but I don't think it can match up to a 700 ci mustang runnin 7 flat (another car in ft lauderdale). THe fastest import in this ft lauderdale track I've heard run was 9 seconds which was a supra.
And yes I know that one track isn't the world, but I still haven't heard or seen any import run lower than 8s.

If anyone here knows how much a trans am weighs because I don't, that would be great. I'm sure a trans am weighs a little more than a S13 so power to weight ratio may allow for a 600rwhp KA to run with it. Your best bet would be for a RB25 though. It will be able to make more power than the KA due to more main caps and more cylinders but it is still only 100ccs bigger. If you want to know how much power it is capable of, you should ask a guy named RazorGTR. He is usually in the skyline forums and is very knowledgable when it comes to RBs.

yea in most cases american muscle is better for drag racing but there are more important things then drag racing. drifting for example. haha its not all about how fast u can go in a straight line lets look at how cars handle no american car can out handle some of the jap cars like the skyline. or look at the evo's those bitches can handle. im just saying there are more things to a car then driving fast in a straight line

^ yea I know, as far as track or auto-crossin, american cars can't compete. Different strokes for different folks, I take handling over acceleration. and nissan fanatic t/a's weigh around 3397 lbs

well not to defend american cars at all, if i remember, Vipers were kicking alot of ass at Le Mans a few years back. anybody remember if any japanese cars ran in Le Mans? i dont even remember, lol. anyways there are some american cars built for road racing, corvette's, saleen s7, i believe Mosler is american too, but you guys are right, considering those cars arent even attainable by average joes like us. throw a Le Mans Viper and a JGTC Skyline on the track at the same time and that outa be pretty interesting. but american cars reputation is pure power, no doubt about that...

So yea, a 240 with approx. 620whp or so should be able to hang or beat a 700whp trans am.

The only race track in South Florida is Moroso Motorsports Dragstrip in West Palm Beach, Florida.
I've seen street spec Supras run 10's, and many other imports touch 9's. I've also seen a green all carbon fiber FC3S run a 7, not even using full power.
They musta been running Nitro or something, big ass turbo, straight elbow from turbo compressor to throttle body, no intercoolers lol.
and you can't say thats as fast as imports go, thats just as fast as people have taken them so far. Its a learning process, believe me these v8 guys weren't pulling 6's and 7's the first day those engines came out. I think some of the sanctioned Import cars are running either low 7's or high 6's.... I forgot, but they are almost on par with the same style class for Domestics.

My x boyfriend has a 240sx and i have to admit those are some sweet cars. they are really good at drifting , but it is hard as anything to find parts for those cheap and if you need some they cost you an arm at a dealership. I would stick with the accord that will be a hot car if you fix it up right.

first of a car isnt good at drifting the driver is what is good at drifting but the cars are good for drifting if thats what u mean. and oh my god that is the worst advice i have ever heard how can u tell someone to choose a accord over the 240 i mean ive told people not to buy 240's before but thats just cause i want them for myself cause i dont want to see other people ruin them but accord over 240? thats crazy

lol sidewayz. telling people not to get 240's cuz you want it? kinda selfish but funny nevertheless.
but you and and escortgal have a point. yea escort, it'd be way cheaper, but i'm sure you've heard the saying "you get what you pay for." plus this guy is tryin to turn an ugly old accord into a skyline wannabe. bleh.......anyways though, like i said already, you get what you pay for for, and in my opinion, a 240 will always be more like a skyline vs. an accord, although a 240 will never be inline 6, twin turbo, 4WD, ATESSA having beast that GT-R's are. i'd say go with the 240, its a hell of alot better car plus i'd think you'd get more "respect" rather than having a fake ass skyline/accord. just save up your lunch money and pay up like the rest of us, lol.

I've caught myself talking bad about my 240 to friends because they expressed way to much interest in it.....and I don't want them to buy one. Most of my friends don't deserve one, because they want wings and coffee cans. while I want real results. There are 4 of us that have decently powered 240's in my area. And that's too many as it is. godd thing we each live one town away....hehe terrorize the village as I like to say.......muahaha.

first off the 1990's accords were pretty decent for an accord, the best ones basicaly. You could swap in a H22 motor, its the easiest honda swap to do actually(the lowest model H22 runs 190hp). They make japanese coilovers for it, anti-roll bars, brake upgrades, STB, LSD, and with the H22 theres a lot you could do to that. The body kit, well if you have any sort of taiste, the average body kit for an Accord look like shit in a porto potty. Those r33 ripoff bumpers actually are about the best looking aero kit for the accord. You could do this just because it looks the nicest(after all you are putting on a body kit for looks), but I agree to do something like that and then Call it a Skyline Conversion or some kinda odd Skyline kit Car or some shit is fucking retarded.
in the end though, with pretty much normal modding even, you still have a 4 door FWD car with a Honda motor....could be fun for AWHILE properly modded though...still FWD...
