97 GMC Jimmy

i have a friend that has a jimmy and is having a problem getting the key to trun off.....i know its not the cyl. because that has been replaced and it still does it. it acts like the shifter is not in park...there is a pin that i can get to under the column that will will release the key....does anyone know if there is a switch on the shifter that i can replce...or is there another switch somewhere else that is the problem......

It may be the ignition switch. Its the black box and harness assembly below the cylinder lock. You need to have power to the switch to get the key out.
