CAT or no CAT?

I am working on an 86' CJ-7 w/258 I-6. I am installing the BORLA header and CAT Back system to it. My question is, do I really need that CAT or can I smash out the guts, and use the empty shell and still get the performance that this engine should produce. I was debating on ordering a high-flow CAT.

Depends on your local pollution control police. If you're looking for torque, you want the back pressure. Looking for HP? Then free flowing is the way to go.

Hmmmm.... I'd go with the high-flow CAT. My 85 CJ had a cat and I thought about removing it several times. But, I'm out there on trails, fighting for off-road rights, picking up my trash (and other people's trash). I want to be responsible, so the cat stayed on.
