Dumbest ticket?

Looking around I see plenty of tickets for speeding and reckless driving, but what's the absolute DUMBEST ticket you ever got. Here's a long story, but kinda funny...

I was on a 100 kmh (60 mph) highway, and when I exited i noticed my brake pedal sink. I pulled into a gas station and bought brake fluid to top it up. I travelled for a few minutes down the road but was still 60 km or so from my destination, when i approached a light that turned yellow. Not wanting to test my failing brakes, i pushed through. Unfortunately, I didn't notice the cop that pulled in behind me at the intersection and followed me. So I'm driving along an 80 kmh (50 mph) road now, smoking a cigarette, and when i finish it, i flick it out the window (habit). Ten seconds later the cherries come on. (Note: this is all within a 30 second time frame). He pulls me over for "not stopping for a red light". After I explain my case, show him the receipt, he takes my license and insurance to the cruiser. Five minutes later he comes back, gives me a warning to fix the brakes and a $110 fine for hitting his windshield with my cigarette butt... called it "Litter Highway". I cry bulls**t but X-COPPER (local ticket busters) tell me I had no case. At least it wasn't a moving violation...

Sux to get busted for littering. Two of my brothers had the dumbest ticket ever on a family vacation.....he was driving down the road with our (wonderful) sister in the passenger seat, another brother following. Turns out sis was holding the radar detector in her lap, so of course it didn't go off when they were zapped by radar. They still tell the story, and it's 10 years later.

if you read the driving book you got when you got your permit, you would of ntcied that it says throwing ANYTHING out of the car is littering. even cigerete ashes.

Hell... i think everybody liters though.

I agree, i thought that the rule was that if it is Biodegradable then it was ok, I can understand a cig butt because of the fire hazard( the cops perspective..lol) But if you can get a ticket for throwing ice out of your car then there is something seriously wrong with the law.

i was driving behind a cop doing everything perfect. he switches lanes and stops at the red to turn left. i stop, then turn right. like i said everything perfect. next thing i know i see lights i pull over in my girlfriends neighborhood which was really embarrasing. he walks up and says he saw me w/o my seatbelt (not true) i told him i had it on, and he says it is improperly on (under the armpit, not over the shoulder)

that is my ticket

i wonder if i had it on "properly", if he would have still pulled me over(im 17)

that sucks. well i havent gotten a ticket while driving yet, but i got when i was riding my damn bike. i was crossing a street on the bike, then i went into a mcdonalds parking lot. all this time i see a cop car sitting in the intersection. so i circle the parking lot, maybe 30 seconds time, and right as im leaving, he pulls up in front of me and flashed the lights. im like "what the hell?" he puts that bright ass spotlight right on me, i stop and put down my bike. he asks me a ton of idiotic questions such as "why are your eyes red?" (chlorine from swimming) "why are you all wet" (swimming again) "did you steal this bike?" (yes i stole a bike when i have a fucking car at home, idiot) "why were you looking at that car for so long?" (there was a broken down POS in the parking lot, that i glanced at for maybe 10 seconds at the most. somehow he comes up with 15min, which is not possible in any way) so i end up getting a ticket for no lights on my bike. wow fuck off buddy i hope you die while chasing someone. also my bike is a specialized 415 which means disturbing the peace in cop code, maybe he didnt like that....lol

the dumbest ticket i have ever gotten was when i came up to a red light and slowed down to like 1 maybe 2 mph, made a right turn and next thing i know lights are flashing behind me, the cop tells me to get out of the car and step back towards him, so i did, he didnt say anything to me except let me see your license and registration and i told him that it was my friends car that was in the backseat so he didnt care for the regristation. im sitting there for about 45min to an hour while hes in the car, he finally comes out and says ok your first sitation is for no headlight (the headlight was out), then he says your second sitation is for no seatbelt (at this time im thinking ok 2 small tickets i can handle that), then he tells me your third sitation is for not coming to a complete stop at a redlight (which was a $80 ticket) and the worst part of all is i had just got a ticket a week before for speeding but he let me go with failure to follow traffic device, which was another $80 ticket, so now i had 2 $80 tickets to pay and 2 $46 tickets to pay.

I got pulled over doing 105mph in a 55, the cop was going the opposite direction and the radar detector didn't go off soon enough. He caught up and pulled me over on the exit ramp I was taking. Says he clocked me at 83mph, I knew it was BS, so i wouldn't admit to it. So he gives me a $20 seatbelt ticket because I didn't have teh lap belt on, only the automatic shoulder harness. The way I see it...if you are going to let me go, then let me go, if you are going to give me a ticket, then give me the ticket( he didn't need me to admit to it, to issue it). But did the township really need that $20 that bad? I mean the damn postage for the payment almost cost as much as the fine.

But throwing a piece of ice is pretty much like throwing a piece of stone...because it can really cause damage to the cars following you. :uhoh:

hmm Dumbest Ticket...ummm let me think, so many i dont remember some...OH yeah stop sign ticket, I was following my friend out of his neighborhood onto the main road, he blows the stop sign completely and speeds off, and even though I had to follow him I slowed to a "rolling stop" 1 or 2 mph, and there was no one on the road either way, so I went...no clue where the cop was but he waits a mile later to pull me over. Two cops come up and the one is like, "you know why i pulled you over?" and I thought it was for speeding b/c I was like 15 over the limit, so i'm like "was I going too fast?"...and hes like "No, you ran that stop sign" And I hadn't thought twice about coming out of the neighborhood b/c my friend blew through it and I pretty much stopped right after him, so I'm like "What stop sign?!" and then he started getting all piggish on me askin if im on drugs and said "dont try to lie to me"...so im like "wtf I don't remember when I ran a stop sign"(cuz it was a mile before hand) then he told me the street and I was like "well wtf why didnt you pull over my friend who blew it completely?!" So then he goes and writes the ticket up and my friend drives by and beeps so I flick him off lol. $110 (I think that was my first ticket that I had to pay a fine for) They don't care for the law, as long as SOMEBODY pays a fine.

I've had 2

1. Equipment violation for having superwhite turnsignals on the car...he said they were blue i said "no the light on the top of your car are blue...these are white" he didn't like that to much so he was an a$$ from then on. BTW the law says they can be from white to amber. He also tried to cite me for the rear side marker lights but i knew that he could not b/c the law only applies to lights that flash. They pull you over to see if you are F-ed up and if you are not they give you tickets like this.

2. reckless driving...i was stopped turning right on red and got a little wheel spin b/c it was wet...he pulls me over and acts like i just robbed a bank or something...he sat there until another cop got there (i'm 5-6 145 does he really need a buddy?) and then acted like an a$$ to me i assume b/c i have a custom honda or something...anyway i looked it up in the law book and went to court and had it dismissed...

I was probably doing about 50 in the right hand lane of a 2 ln hwy. I needed to get over, so I signaled, and merged when I found space. A woman behind me in the lane I just merged into hit her horn, I guess to say she thought I cut her off. Next thing I know she's following me on my way to work. I get there, she parks behind me so I can't get out and calls the cops on her cellphone. Next thing I know, they show up, and give me a $200 ticket for reckless driving. Even though they weren't even there. I took it to court with a witness who saw the whole thing, and still lost.

LoL, alpha, that has to be bullshit, that cop was being a dick.
Igovert, be glad you got off so easy! :P He was being nice!

I just want to clarify, flicking off a cop is the same as assault on a police officer you can get arrested and or have the living $hit beat out of you.

My contributions:
First ticket, going down a highway, about 11 oclock at night. Was going the EXACT pace as this truck next to me, (i was in left lane, he was in right) next thing you know I have this tail lights RIGHT on my ass, no joke, no more than 8 feet behind me. So I speed up to pass the truck, put my right turn signal on, switched lanes, and started slowing back down, next thing you know the car dives behind me and throws on his lights. Gotta ticket 66mph in a 55. Had to do 11 hours community service

Another one:
Decided to speed on this backroad. It was 3 oclock at night, on the way to my GF's. No-one on the street, so I started to speed up, (theres this hilly part of the road that real fun to go fast on) Must have missed him, so I slowed back down to 60mph (it was a 55mph road) Then I see these tail lights in my rear view gaining ground on me quick, I figured it was someone doing the same thing I did so I moved out of my lane to let him by, next thing you know, blue light special. He was explaining to me "This is a summons, It does not say your guilty, you just promise to appear in court on this day"... trying to be a smart ass I said "I don't know if I can make it?" he then said, "Oh, well I can arrest you now and take you to the majistrate if you want..."

I signed it...

And to top it all off. A guy a go to college with this guy who has a Suzuki GSXR 1000. Was doing 183mph in a 45 mph work zone. (it was an interstate, but they were doing construction). Slows down, sees a cop trying to catch up to him so he takes off again. (The cop was close enough to get his license plate). But he jumps on an offramp, is racing around trying to get away, in the process wrecks his bike into some corn field. Farmer hears this and runs out with his shotgun to find this guy I know, bloody with a broken arm. He calls the cops, and the first one to get there is the one that was chasing him. Oh, and his bike is totalled. I think some of the offenses are:

reckless driving
reckless endangerment
driving with the intent to kill
evading arrest
138mph over posted speed limit
destruction of private property (for the corn that his crash tore up)
and don't forget the part the speeding was through a constuction zone, 'fines doubled'

Oh yeah, ice counts. Happen to an old friend of mine years ago. He just finished a soda he got from McDonalds and launched the ice from his cup out the window. Copper was behind them. Copper pulled them over. Lucky for my friend his father, who is a corrections officer, was with him. Copper left him with a warning.

No. Sorry but giving a cop the finger is no way considered assault. If there is no physical contact between you and the cop then there is no assault. Now, if you spit on or throw a piece of paper at a cop, then its assault.

No, contact would be battery. Giving someone the finger could be offensive but that is all. A threat would be assault.
Assault is the threat
Battery is the hitting

Cops are lazy? yeah... I've figured that one out...

I was pulled over for tailgating, excessive use of the horn, unauthorised lights (neons), speeding, and sound pollution all at once. The cop came up to my window, got my license and registration, went to his car and ran it. Needless to say he comes back a couple of minutes later telling me ontop of everything else my license is also suspended for having 4 unpaid tickets (2x speeding, no seat belt, and running a stop sign).

Instead of writing me up or bringing me to jail like he could, he gave me a ticket for the lights and said to me, "as far as I'm concerned your walking from here, just wait till I'm out of sight to pull away."

The next day I stoped by the local police station after I pulled the lights off of my car, got the ticket cancelled out, and went on my merry way.

Spinning donuts in a deserted gravel parking lot in a really small town in the middle of the night.
It wasn't even a full donut, just one turn.

That was 'careless driving' and $146.

I say it wasn't 'careless' at all. I took great care to do exactly the 1/2 donut I wanted to do.

Anyways, that was 21 years ago. Since then, I have taken great care to take a good look around before doing something stupid........and have been idiot-ticket free ever since.

got pulled over for "reckless driving in a work zone"

Driving 55 in a work zone and a lady with big 80's hair driving a Mustang convertible was in front of me with the top down, next thing i see, a load of magazines and a blanket fly out of the back and heading my way. I nail the brakes and duck to the shoulder ( away from construction)

cop said that i "disobied posted signs" (the sign said emergency stopping only) well I would have guessed that if a magazine was flying towards your windshield you MIGHT want to stop. had to pay $250 (fines doubled)

Well I start my car, and There goes the cherries, Im like wtf cause i didnt think it was me. He Blocked my car in and told me not to move. I was like what the crap is this. He says license and insurence plez i handed it to him. He says was you planning on robbing this gas station. I GO "WHAT!?!? no no no no no i was using my cell phone." He goes dont get smart son, and then he calls for back up. Backup shows up and this cop is like 4'11 he was a small dude, then he said i had drugs in the car. He goes can i search the car. I was like yea go head. Want me to pop the trunk and the hood and you can get your drug dogs to sniff???? he goes No, finally he asks me what i was really doing, and I said i was using my cell phone instead of being on the street, driving and losing concentration. He finally just gives me a ticket for the light around my plate not being bright enough.

I always hate it when they start messing with you for no reason. No wonder nobody likes them, especially teens. And the worst thing is that there's nothing you can do about it. If you try to report it to a supervisor, they'll just tell you that he was doing his job, and every once in a while they make mistakes like that.

Actually, you can do something about it if you have someone to prove that they were unfair.

A while ago while I worked at the local mall, I was walking out of the front doors. Instead of using my hands to open the door I pop it open with my foot. Well this 2 bit cop comes up to me and pushes me against the wall treating me like a regular punk. He reads me the riot act about kicking the door instead of opening it with my hand. So I get the dolts badge # and name, head over to the station with my friend the next day and report him.

I find out a couple of weeks later, that he was suspended for excessive unprovoked violence. He was then sent to a councelor.

I think the stupidest ticket in here is the one for the liscense plate light being dim. (that or the one for only wearing the automatic shoulder strap, because you should have known to put the waist belt on before the cop got there) If they realize youre just a regular dude who ISNT robbing a store, then why should they still pick on you and give you such a stupid ticket? They say cops dont have "quotas" but they do. I met a guy that knew their deadline to meet the quota, and he told me, watch for cops in the last week of the month because they have to get all their tickets.. well, I started paying attention, and about 7 of 10 times I saw people pulled over after that, it was almost the end of the month. Also I used to get cops that would tail me for about 5 minutes every once in a while, waiting for me to make mistakes (God I hate that, its so unnerving), and I began to realize they were doing that towards the end of the month as well.

va-un4given
12-25-2004, 07:07 AM
well cops dont have quotas, no cop does. But what happens is at the end of the month you are reviewed by your superior on your performance fo the month. Most of the time your not doing a good enough job, if you dont write enough tickets they tell you tha tyou are'nt doing your job well enough and you need to step it up or well terminate you next review, if you write TOO many tickets then you get in trouble becuase your harrassing the public. So either way your screwed, for that amtter there wasnt much you COULD do right as a state cop in virginia, if you werent part of the masons or brown nosing you didnt get anywhere. but to answer tha lil query cops never have quotas but at teh end of the month most of them get t ehre review and come back out into the beat thinking to themselves either well screw em il write a buttload of tickets and that outta cover my tail until next rewview, or they come out going i hate this job if they dont want me to writ tickets i wont pull anybody over. I always got sick of being asked if i had a quota to meet and is that why your pulling me over, couldnt be any further from the truth, 9 times outta 10 you did something wrong.

the only time im not speeding, is if I just really could care less about where im going and when im getting there, because im just cruisin, listenin to the stereo. That or if the pigs are 10 feet off my back bumper following me turn for turn, harrassing me, just waiting for me to make a mistake. I respect cops, but that is just wrong. They shouldnt be out trying to intimidate people into making mistakes. quota or no quota.

ok so what your saying is you speed all the time unless a cop is right behind you or if your just cruising? UM id tail you too, if your always speeding, yoru setting your ownself up for tickets there bud. Dont take it out on teh cops tailing you, its your own stupidity. Speeding is a chioce, if the speed limit is 55mph then 56mph technically is groudns to pull you over. My suggestion to you if you dotn want them tailing you then stop speeding all the time, thats a no brainer. Oh and if you drive a flashy perforance car, chances are your gona get ppls attention and the cops attention as well. Pros and cons to every equation.

I am curious about why you ran in the first place? Traffic violation? Contraband in the car?
What kind of penalty would be worse......being pulled over that day or losing your car, money and freedom the way you did?

I somehow turned around 150 degrees in my seat to read the new name/logo and when I sat forward again I slammed on the brakes and CRASH! But the worst part was being hunched over and looking down at my feet after the collision and hearing another CRASH, and then another CRASH! Took me a while to realize I cause a 4-car chain reaction. we all make mistakes, that was one i've regretted for quite a while, but i ran for two reasons, thought it wuldnt have lasted that long, and second the two guys in my car were both hammered and one of em had contraband, i myself dont mess with either, but after one of em spilling all the beer and the blue lights coming on for the ticket, he waits till im slowing down to get teh ticket to inform me he had a gram of weed on em, panicked and said screw it im gone. Needless to say i havent associated with either him or my brother since that incident, and my brothers friend the dope head got a serious butt whomping once i was out. not proud of it but it was probably the dumbest ticket/thing ive ever done.

Thought I'd add my tickets in.
I've only had one ticket for doing 49 in a 25 School Zone, but luckily he only gave me a $144 ticket which should have been close to $300, he knocked off 9 miles so i was only doing 40.

But being harrass by the cops is the extreme of which i got off work late one night and was driving the Caddie home, This city cop ran up behind me and just rode my ass for a couple of blocks until i turned on a side street. He followed me to the next street and kind of sat at the stop sign watching me. I turn onto the rode that leads to my house and i don't see headlights anymore in the rear view mirror, but what i do see is him running up behind me with no lights on period. finally i take a left and head down to my house and just gun it pulling into the driveway all the way to the back yard and walk around to sit on the front porch.
Sure enough he rides on by with his headlights on. But he turns around and starts shining his spotlight in peoples yards and shit.

unfortunately m ost town cops are on a powertrip and use profiling to teh umpteenth degree, the there teh same way here. One night about 2yrs ago i was sitting at an ATM in my 78caprice at around 11pm on a friday night. I get my money for the evening, and then forgot to check my balance on diff account so i put card back in and did my thing, half way through it i noticed a town cop behind me in lane, im thinking huh he must hve to get some money out, then i thouth wait there not suppsoe to do that while at work. So i finish pul out, soon as i hit main road in front fo the bank bam the ligthst come on, his excuse for pulling me over? I looked suspicious with that big of a car that late at night sitting at an ATM...?! wtf did he think i was gonna jump out and chain it to my caprice and drag it down teh road? get serious. He then told me that because of the size fo teh car i MUST have guns or drugs in it?! Im nowhere near the profile for that crap but ok ill play along, i refuse for him to search my car which is my legal right, he then calls 2 superior officers, 1 of which was a long time friend. My friend (his lieutinant) told him basically to quit harassing ppl or hed see to it he was fired. I just couldnt belive taht crap, funny part was the same guy about 1 month later was caught banging some 15yr old local girl in his cruiser in town like 3blocks from damn station lol, he was fired 2days after offense and put in jail for statutory rape lol go figure

I dont have any dumb tickets but my husband has so ill tell you about his instead. My husband when he was still in highschool got a ford merkur scorpio it was jet black etc. Must look suspicious or something because he was always getting pulled over in it. Anyways he got pulled over numerous times for spinning his tires etc which he prolly deserved a few of them, and then once he got pulled over for his windows being to tinted only for him to go a prove in court they were not to tinted just to the very limit. And I only tell you those to tell you all of these were in the time span of a month of him getting the car. the final straw came when after dropping me off at my house he got pulled over on his dirt road only 1/2 a mile from his home not even in town for his head lights being to bright. Which after looking it up turns out they were legally not to bright. anyways he was only 18 at the time and they cuffed him searched his car, threatened him. Never found anything and kept him for like an hour and a half. They kept asking him all these questions and saying he was on drugs which he was not. His dad went down the next day and complained and the cop got eventully got fired. All the tickets were dropped.
