As I panicked today to find out more information my first speeding ticket, I went ahead and purchased the www.BeatMySpeedingTicket.com guide, and read thru most of it.
This is my question: Has anyone purchased this? Does anyone have any first hand knowledge this will not work?
I am 17 years old, and my best bet may be to just act a normal teenagaer and hope for sympathy. Anyone have any suggestions?
I was speeding 50/35.
Thanks!
Dan

you won't get sympathy...trust me. been there twice hoping for the same thing and got fucked over both times.
BMST actually does work really well. one suggestion...if you're going to talk to the prosecutor before the actual trial, don't tell them anything. they'll use it against you.

I've seen some people on this board say BMST works well, but did you ever personally try this or know of anyone who did? Will the cop most likely not bring the test result documentation to court? I would think if many people were doing this the court would catch on and an officer would always have this documentation on hand so that anyone who tries to be tricky like this will just get embarrased in court. ?
I was thinking since I am under 18 and haven't gotten a ticket before I may get sympathy.. I know of a friend who had that happen, but I guess it's not very common.
Argh. Don't know what to do. I can NOT afford to have points on my license as my dad will get PISSED at insurance rates rising.

how fast were you going, and what kind of road?
were you going 75 in a 25? :sly:
Depends on the severity of the ticket.
If it's 25mph over the limit, "Pray"
If it's less, and a reasonable amount (ie 35 in a 25 ; 50 in 35)
then with no prior tickets, the judge may just tell you to slow it down, and let you go, with paying court costs.
Play it straight, and don't act like an A$$. Go in looking respectable.
(FYI)Judges don't find teens dessed in baggy pants, with body piercings repsectable. I'd say the BMST is basically somebody charging you for good advise that's otherwise common knowledge.
Best of Luck

oops, I see the speed you were going now.
Just be up front, and honest with the judge. Don't be pathetic, and maybe it will work out ok. Otherwise, live, and learn.

Thanks man, that's what I will do. Court date is for October 15th (that's a long time to wait), and I will just tell the judge a bunch of facts (first speeding ticket, AB honor roll student, parents took action after ticket), and also I may also ask the judge to take a driver improvement course and dropping the case (not say exactly that).
I doubt he'll just drop the whole case without anything.
Thanks.
Dan
PS - Yeah, not speeding (too much) anymore.

Good idea on the safety course, judges usually like that sort of "responsible attitude". Did the cop follow you or were you on radar?

Cought me red-handed on RADAR. He cought soo many cars on this one road. Everytime I passes he had pulled over a different car. Not to sound like an excuse or anything, but honestly it's a VERY easy road to speed on (well, probably most cop traps are..).
Thanks,
Dan

i still wouldn't plan on getting sympathy. i'm pretty much in the same situation you're in as far as grades and clean record and stuff. i was going 44 in a 25 in a business district at 11 at night, only car on the road. told the judge, $77 fine AND driver class...not one or the other...both.
and BMST does work...my friend tried it and she got off

Well freak, I don't care about the judge fining my ass or taking the class (well I guess I do, but I'll def live with it), what I care about so much over everythign is points being added to my license. Insurance will take a huge incline. :uhoh:
In your case, were there any points/anything done to your record?

It is very unlikely that you are capable of using the information in the book to get out of your speeding ticket. Most of the info is only likely to get the officer and judge mad at you and then any reduction will be out the window. Traffic court judges in Virginia tend to ignore any evidence you may present.
You also wasted your money on the book since most of the same information can be had online for free. In addition, since you are a minor, one of your parents or an attorney will have to address the court.
Take your school information with you. Some VA judges will take good grades into consideration. You should be able to get traffic school which you may be able to take online. Go ahead and call the clerk of court and see if you are eligible. Usually you have to be doing 10mph or less but some courts vary.

I think the website says if you are under 20, you have to take a physical class, not online.
Thanks for your input lwpat. So do you think I can call the "clerk of court" now and see if they will let me take the class in exchange? Shouldn't I ait until my court date to do this.. ?
Thanks,
Dan

If you can possibly get it settled before your court date why wait and have to actually waste your time in traffic court.

I don't know if you can do it where you live, but in Canada (or Ontario at least) what you can try is postponing your court date 2 or 3 times, and by the 3rd time your officer may not show up. a relative of mine did that once when he was on the brink of losing his liscense, and it worked for him
