92' SC Overheating Problem

First, this is a third party question. I don't own the 92' SC, 6 cylinder, but just trying to help the 78 year old man that really loves this car.

He has an overheating problem that occurs fairly quick which causes a discharge of coolant from the overflow tube. He has had it to 3 small shops (not a Ford dealer) and they have replaced the radiator cap and the thermostat; checked pump and radiator and cannot find any problem. Shops say they have no idea what may be wrong.

I know from past experiences that many things can cause overheating. Had a 77' El Camino that had lifters with pitted bottoms that wore down the lobes on the camshaft. This caused intermittent overheating, at first, and finally caused major, discoverable damage. So, can anyone offer any suggestions?

Many thanks,

O. Hughes

I own the same car and it does almost the same thing last time it did it i replaced the water pump which is a fun project and it solved the problem, now three years later it has started doing the same thing. I have not had time to replace the water pump but im pretty sure thats what it is again. Get an airtex pump they have a lifetime warranty. It also helps if you just remove the thermostat.
