OEM fluids

In the maual for my 2004 V6 6sp honda accord, it states to use honda, well, pretty much everything except wiper fluid. Is there any harm in using coolant, brake/clutch fluid and power steering fluid that isn't OEM? The manual states it could damage things and use non-honda produst as a temporary last resort. Is that BS or should I run to my dealer and stock up?

Some of fluids like ATF and power steering have to be formulated to Honda’s standards.
There are manufacturers that produce such product, but some times its cheaper to buy Honda fluid then aftermarket, for example 1quart of Honda's ATF Z1 cost $5-$6 when 1quart of Amsoil ATF cost $7-$8.
