Ive been running into probs with my 94 talon tsi fwd since i got it about 3 weeks ago first i had trouble getting a damn oil filter to fit now its the cv's. I already have the passenger side out b/c the boot was torn to hell and i got a replacement cv axle for it at a local auto parts store but when i tried to put it in it was to small b/c the spline count was different. The ones i pulled out had 27 splines and the ones i keep finding at auto parts stores are only 25. Does anyone know why the splines came up different. Could i have a different tranny than whats suppost to be in there i thought they were all similar could someone have swapped it and thats what my problem is please help. Also the tranny code is F5M3 and then up and over to the left side I see 710 if that helps but my cars out of comission til i solve this so help please :banghead:

Also not sure if this could be why but some of the parts stores when they would look it up it would be for the 2.0 non turbo but had the same part number as the turbo but when i look it up for a 95 its a different number did they change the tranny's for that year could someone have put a newer tranny in instead of possibly rebuilding the old one???? just a few things to think about..........

Is the CV itself bad? If not you can buy a new boot... I got one for an old car I had where the boot tore so I replaced it with new one... it is kinda like a universal fit type that wraps around and sealed it right up... only cost me about $5-10... lot cheaper than whole assembly... As for auto stores... i've found they don't have the greatest knowledge for our type of cars... I tried to get a steering pump and napa AND checker auto both had wrong one listed in their computers!!! they suck!!!!and they say the 4G63 can get bosch plat 4 plugs but they arent even the right size!!!! Probably have to go through dealership.. for your sake I hope not and all ya need is the boot!!!!! Good luck

You think that all of them could have the wrong ones listed. Well i hope thats true but if not do you know if the 95 and up tranny differs by spline count?? Also yea the axle itself has worn pretty bad it was tore when i bought it no tellin how long its been like that. Might just have to try the dealer do you have an idea how much they would cost????

Sorry I have no idea on the cost. Have you tried having the parts store do a cross check... Have them..(if in stock) look at other years and or talon and eclipse... they might just have their shit mixed up!!! At least call dealership in morning and get a part # you might be able to use or get info on any changes that might have been done half way through the year for that model...??? never know...

If you wanted to replace the whole axle it would be pretty expensive, but to have it rebuilt its not too bad. They just replace the bad parts. Cost me about 175.

That's 175 at a no name auto mechanic shop. No telling how expensive it would be at a dealer.

I may have figured out why nobody has what I need. At all the autoparts stores i can find they only have the non abs listed and dont have any for the abs models. Ive tried through a dealer but there having trouble finding them so i decided to look for someone to rebuild them and replace everything that is bad for about $100 which isnt to bad lets just hope they do it right still waiting on them will go pick them up in a few hours.

Just happened to be cruising Machv.com and found this:
http://www.machv.com/ficvsh.html
These CV shafts won't work in your car but they do have a note saying why. 1G's buillt between 7/92 and 94 do have larger spline shafts like what your seeing. Guess it's asking too much for the autoparts store to have this type of information. :disappoin
