Funny price estimates

I decided to start a thread where people can post estimates they have had for there 944s that they thought were funny. I just had a run in with Firestone myself. I just wanted to get the freon refilled so I took it to firestone and they said the compressor was locked up and they were looking up how much it would cost to get a used or rebuilt one. The price they came back with was slightly over $2,200. I was so shocked by that that I couldn't even respond so I just leave. On the way home my car is barley moving and about to stall so I pull it over and look under in the hood... somehow while getting an estimate for my compressor they had managed to disconnect the throttle cable, and claimed they didn’t notice how badly it was driving when they pulled it out of the garage. I think firestone has quite possibly hired the stupidest mechanics ever, lol.

$600 to replace the slave cylinder at the dealership.
A $50 item and 2 hours of work. That's all it took for me to do it.
The $150 belt retensioning after 1500 miles? No thank you. My dad and I split the cost on a factory tool (used but in origional box w/ calibrator, $450) and we'll never have to pay that again.

How about $1800 (without parts, probably 2400 with) for the waterpump job. Not even belts or rollers too.

Power steering rack... 750 for a remanufactured rack, plas 300 in labor for an independant. Want it done by a dealer? Double the price... Bought a reseal kit and a clunker rack from ebay. Four hours and some greasy hands.... total cost, less than 200.

I just saw a good one I will share with you: How about $4500 for a broken timing belt on a 16 valve at the dealer. they ended up replacing only 4 valves-good money when you can get it. Same job took me 8 hours and $550 in parts.

dealers want £550 for a standard backbox/tailpipe in the uk? bought a stainless steel one from euro car parts for £110, and its gonna live the car out, well ok, it is a porsche, so it aint, but its gonna last a bit longer than a standard one.
