I just bought a 87 fiero gt and love it. The driver's side headlight is very slow and the passenger side doesn't come up at all. Should I buy new motors or do I just need a rebuild kit?

Also where can you go to get good swap engines, new or used? How do you know which will fit and which won't?

Just dealt with that problem.

If they move AT ALL, they don't need to be rebuilt. Bottom line. The failing component in the motors is the nylon gear. If your nylon gear was stripped you just hear "wirrrrrr" constantly. It woudln't stop until you turned off the switch.

Surprisingly, NEITHER of mine worked until I WD-40ed them. I recommend that, and just open and closen them about 30 times with the switch. I wacked my friend in the head, he was listening for the "wirrr" sound when it come up and hit him in the face.

To releave some weight while you free them up, open the hood. This releives about 20 pounds of pressure from the headlight doors.

http://www.michiganfieroclub.org/headlight.htm <--- This website outlines how to check the relays. Its possible that the relay on the one that does not open is gone. They're only about 15 bucks to replace, or you could build one yourself.

Either way, first thing to check is the sound. If you turn the lights on, and you hear "wirrrrr" for more than 4 seconds, then you have a stripped nylon grear.
