2004 Best Modified Diecast Contest

Camber
08-09-2004, 08:04 PM
Theres been many contests on the Plastic modeling section of the forum.
I see the Diecast section has become much more popular then it used to
be. So why not a contest for diecast cars? Surely the car will need to be
modified, theres no point of having a contest with a bunch of stock cars
no one did any work on.

I'd be willing to organize it. It could be a simple entry and vote through
PM. The thing is ill be entering, so possibly a nuetral person like a mod.
can handle the voting part, so i can be trusted.

Sounds great. I'd be willing to help with the voting, which I think should be open poll, or open vote by post. That way I can check for cheaters.

I was wondering how long it would take for one of these to arrive. Whats the timeframe? I have plans for a diecast, but I need to build my shop in my new house first.

Camber

Cool man. Yea your right, open post would be good, then people can
give there explanation and what not.

About the timeframe im not too sure, deffinately 3 or 4 months maybe.

mike@af

Any specific rules?

I for one say there has to be a progress thread.

Hobbes

This sounds interesting...

Will there be different types/classes for the contest, like from the simple interior change to the more extreme? I for one can only do the interior mods and maybe wheel changes. I'm not really ready for the chop/cut/rebuild thing yet...

A progress thread is a really good idea...

mike@af
08-09-2004, 09:34 PM
Good question Rickey. I think there might be two categories, one amateur, one pro. I dont think it could be split up much more than that because of the limited number of entries.

What do you think Camber?

Hell yea, Im in. Progress thread indeed.

Good question. This is what I think might happen:

Have the person get their own thread for their project because just about all the time they have an idea of what they're going to do.

Use that as the progress thread so that when entered in the contest, the 'judges' will have an idea what the person did and at what time.

Then at the contest make another thread just showing the complete mods of the cars and people can vote from there.

It's not really ruining the suprise at least... Just look at the contests from the modeling forums...

Camber

That sounds good to me Hobbes.

As for divisions, yes, i suggest we dont' split it up that much since theres
not going to be tons of entries. I dont even think a Pro and amatuer
division is neccisary, how about just an SUV and Car division? In my
opinion i dont think theres that much over the top modifications in the
diecast field right now. Just my 2c.

I like to be in this. I dont modify diecast much but I want to give a try and have fun! Plus I have a lot of diecast cars I could customize.

Camber
08-10-2004, 11:20 AM
Ok, just so I get all the entries together, please label your entry thread with "contest Entry", so i know whats what. Thank you

And correction on my last post, It can be SUV/Trucks, and a Car
division. How's that sound everyone?

Man, this sounds so tempting. I may decide to attempt this, but will probably just screw one of my models up.

Shouldn't there be other classes too, like cars, trucks, or what type of mods, like slight customization, advanced and extreme. Or something like that. Just throwin out some ideas.

Camber
08-10-2004, 01:00 PM
Maybe a mod can sticky this?

mike@af
08-10-2004, 03:29 PM
I'll sticky in just a sec, first I want to put in my :2cents:

As far as the classes, I'm not doing a simple rim change and ICE. Im going all out, loads of body work, all sorts of crap. I know Josh (ImportSupra) will do the same and present quite a challenge. I was just trying to make it fair to those that just to rims and ICE.

IImportSupra
08-10-2004, 03:34 PM
I know what you mean about Ice and Rims. Thats really not a challenge, To some. As mike stated, I think Bodywork and Ice/Rims sould have there own section. It will only fair.

Camber
08-10-2004, 04:25 PM
Alright Mike, that sounds good to me. But what if some1 does minor
body work like door shavings and paint, i dont' think that'd be classified
as either.

progress thread? what if its not ?
does time really counts in the contest??
as long as the finish product meet the requirements

well i just saw this. and have a few things to say being involved in another diecast contest awhile back.

-Classes
3 classes- best exterior, best interior, and best overall- maybe different levels (pro and beginner), but who is to decide what class they belong in? also i think because of the small amount of people entering this, i dont think scale should play a factor.

-Prizes
is this just a fun thing to do, or is someone/a few people willing to donate prizes? i may be able to scrape some money together and help with a prize

-Judging
i think there should be a post where you post who you like for the contest. prevents cheating some what. or we could go along the lines of having a certain number of judges who listens to everyones opinion and includes theirs in the verdict

-Progress threads
i personally dont like posting up progress shots. how about we take progress pictures and when the contest is up, the progress pictures get put into a thread once the contest is complete

-Time period
when is the contest ending? i think a good 2 or 3 monthes is a good time period

-Number of cars
how many cars can be submitted by one person? i would like enter 2 or more cars, but one car would most likely mean better quality, and a more even playing field.

I AGREE THERE SHOULD BE A CONTEST FOR PEOPLE LIKE US. I'D ENTER IN A SECOND. YOU SHOULD SEE SOME OF THE MODIFIED DIECASTS I OWN.

The less extreme category.

Too many classes. This forum is very small as of now. Problem with that is there will be only about 10, maybe 15 entries.

-Prizes

Not sure as of now.

Thread with open voting. That way I can check for cheating.

Every other contest is done this way. I completely understand what your saying. However I think progress threads of the contest entries will get a little more involvement for the forum and the contest.

-Time period

Sounds good to me, except I say minimum 3 months.

One...like you said, level playing field.

sounds good to me.

so does what does everyone agree on for an ending date? i was thinking November 21st the completed entries should be posted?

also one more question. should problems occur, can we change our entries, as long as we post in our thread saying we are changing our entry?

I've been watching this thread progress and I'd like to offer up a few suggestions. First of all I have a few sets of rims I could donate as a prize for the winner or winners or however mike and fly set this up. Just let me know and I can post pics or whatnot.

I think we're gonna have a significantly larger number of votes than members. I can put out the word to a few other forums and see if we can bolster the number of voters and participants. I'd just like to do my part.

I don't really like this insitence on bodykits either. I plan on entering my supra (which has about a few weeks head start but will be done sooner) but I haven't done and don't plan to do any bodywork to it since it has a bodykit already in place. What are the rules for entering the categories? Number of mods? Type of mods? You guys still need to hammer out the definitions of the categories (and what categories there are).

Hobbes

Looks like I'm gonna have to start buying two of everything now. :p

Not wanting to be rude or anything, but I'm not entering yet until everything is sorted out. (I'm still confused)

First off, the deadline thing; Is it like you should have a car entered by that time? Like FlySkyline said, something might happen and that person has to change the entry car. Then once the deadline has passed the judging starts like one month later...

Second, explain to me about open voting and cheating. It's not registering in my mind yet...

Third, how the hell are the classes gonna be divided into? I think the best way to have it is by doing Camber and Mike's ideas put together:
Car class (beginner and pro) and SUV/Truck class (beginner and pro). That's four classes right there. That should be enough for now due to limited people here.

Other than that, I don't see any other problem...

I could pretty easily register another 20 accounts and vote in a poll. If everyone has to post to make their vote Mike can look at the accounts and determine if they're all from one IP address (I think he can do that). Either that or if we see about 20 names that just registered the day of the vote then we might suspect something... I don't think there will be much of a problem though, not like people will be winning a pile of money.

ICE is all of the chrome details on a car. So if your car is Iced up its loaded with chrome and platinum accents.

That's sorta what I had in mind about the voting thing. Just wasn't sure.

Chromed out eh? What's the best way to get rid of the chrome like on the engine? If it's easy then I got a car for the comp...

Thanks Garret.

i thought ice was electronics too. but i could see it also as all the chrome.

I.C.E. also known as ice = In Car Electronics- thats what i thought

it has already began, but we havent had an exact finish date, dont worry, you got atleast 3 monthes. webcams are cool, just you might want to buy something better so you get a better picutre and that will show your work off better
