Dakota Overheating

I have a 2000 Dakota Quad 4x4 with a Magnum V-8, I am overheating with A/C on in city traffic or @ idle. When driving on the highway it works fine. Any help ?

You may want to try a flex fan or a pusher type electric fan in front of the radiator if you have room. The flex fan has thin blades with a heavy cup that flatten out at a higher RPM. The heavy cup moves much more air at an idle than a stock fan and when they flatten offer less resistence when you are moving when you don't need the fan. If the electric fan will fit you can wire it into switch in the cab to turn on manually or rig a thermostatic switch and a relay to make it automatic. Alot of imports had these mounted in their radiators so getting the parts aren't a problem but finding a place to mount it in the coolant may be.

I think we all have this problem. Mine is always overheating in traffic with air on. I checked around and found a pretty Reputable shop that is already working on the problem. They also own a Dakota and have know about these things. . They will have a total fix without hacking everything up. Get with www.southeastperformance.com

I guess if you aren't intelligent enough to fix it yourself one can only hope you pay dearly for someone else to do just that.

It seems there was a problem with the truck cooling systems to begin with. Mopar finally tried to fix it in 2000 by adding an electric fan along with the stock steel fan. It may have worked for most but the guys in the hotter areas still had overheating problems.

I've never seen a vehicle that didn't OVERHEAT IN TRAFFIC WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING ON.

HAHAHAHA, really!! Not sure how old you are but we had some Mopar;s with pretty rough cams in the 60's with 3 gears that ate up most of todays cars off the show room floor and they didn';t overheat.

With the air conditioning on? That's pretty impressive. If it's 110 degrees outside with no wind and you're sitting in traffic with the air up on high, it wouldn't heat up? Well that's cool.

I guess i am just lucky my 93 dakota with 3.9 factory air and a factory 5 blade clutch fan will idle all day w/o overheating
