this is kind of a stupid question... i cant find any really fine sandpaper(the finest i have is 400) so i was wondering if i could use toothpaste to rub down the car before i prime it? i remember someone told me that toothpaste was more abrasive than compound but its still gotta be really fine.

im not sure about toothe paste

but 400 should be fine to rub down the car, i use 400, or some times even 220 and i rarely have any problems.

Just go to Wal Mart in the auto aisle. I bought 2500 there before.

toothpaste is nice for final polishing.. It worth maybe a 2500 grit sand paper. I prefer using Automobile Wax and tamiya compound

sandpaper would be alot better, plus its cheaper than toothpaste, 10 cents for a sheet, at any auto parts store.
ive never heard of using toothpaste lol?, but if you choose to use it, make sure you clean the body really good before you paint it, the toothpast may affect the paint

I have used Comet abrasive scouring powder on several occasions to give the primer a "tooth" to bite with. I combine comet and some dishwashing liquid to clean off any plastic releaser after the parts come out of the mold. Use an old toothbrush and the abrasive powder.
Just make sure you really wash off the model well afterwards, as any abrasive left on the body will form a gritty mess.

i used toothpaste to remove some black paint from my windshield and it worked pretty good. i remember Vric said sandpaper was 40 cents a sheet at hardware stores but i went to home depot and i bought a pack of 5 for like $3-4. i went to Wal-Mart but i forgot to look in the auto department. im sure ill go over there sometime soon and if they dont have it i can check Pepboys.
