Will an SI dizzy work on a dpfi engine, matching up all the wires and just not connecting the blue 2 cylinder sensor wires?

I'll trade you a working DPFI dizzy for a working MPFI dizzy.... and like max said, nope.

if you're doing an dpfi to mpfi swap then the si dizzy will work (you'll have to rewire in a couple of areas); but if your going to try and use an SI dizzy on a dpfi car = then it wont work. hey why dont you sell that SI dizzy? There's a decent amount of people going dpfi to mpfu and you could get in between 50 to 100 for it.

Can someone tell me why it wont work or tell me what I need to rewire or share a link? They both use the same coil and ignitor only difference looks like the cylinder sensor.

Here is my story. I did a mpfi swap on my 88 dx, got everything installed and wired up. Started it up and it started fine and idled good. But when you give it any gas it is like it is missing very bad. I checked all my wires, swapped the tps wires, timed it and changed the cap and rotor NO JOY =(. I had to put the dpfi back on it (work car), so I narrowed it down to the the dizzy. I would like to find some way to test the next one I get before I do the swap again. Or does anyone possibly know what I might be doing wrong?

Thx

sounds like you have it wired wrong.

Wired it wrong how? I am open to all suggestions here. I wired it wire for wire and the only 2 I even had a question about were the 2 white wires. But if you switch them around the car doesn't even start.

where did you get your wiring instructions from and can we see ? it sound wierd that your dizzy would fire on 3 and miss 1. if thats the case, then do you think the cap is worn down on whichever cylinder is missing (causing the contact from the rotor to not hit/spark the cap)?
that behaivor you posted about your car at idle and then power loss sounds like a timing related matter (if you can swear you wired everything correctly). are you 100% positive the timing is correct?

I have a 1990 honda civic d15 & swapped motors to a 92 civic d15 because my piston ring burnt up,the 92 motor came with the MPFI & already had the DPFI on it,so I didnt have the ecu & wiring harness,so I havent messed with it,it also came with the MPFI distributor that went to exact same motor I had before I switched motors,so it should fit.

ok if your using a 92+ distro IT WILL NOT WORK your reluctor has 24 fins the SI (88-91) only has like 18 u need to use a 88-91 si distro and u CAN use the MPFI on the 92+ motor but u HAVE TO USE 88-91 injectors and a 88-91 PM6 ecu i have done that exact swap u have
a 89 civic 4d (stock motor) with a 92 D15b intake and a 88-91 si distro and 88-91 injectors and a PM6 ecu

hey a vaccuum leak could also cause those power related issues... or maybe you already got it fixed?

What I am working on is a 88 dx w/ d15b2 and trying to use a TD02 distributor. I used the instructions from www.fourthgenhatch.com. I have repeadily checked the 4 new wires going to the ecu for the swap and they are correct. I had one vac leak when I first put the new IM on, it was where the IAC? goes but I just plugged it since I dont use it. I truely think it is a distributor problem, which brings me back to my question. Why wont a td02 - td18 work on a d15b2 dpfi setup for testing or how can I make it work to test? BTW thx for all the input, I would like to get this working.

Well I have found the fix to my problem... I got a new dizzy today, it is off a usdm civic si. The other one I was trying to use was a jdm dizzy off a concerto. Anyways, I put it on and it started right up and I could rev it normally, but I could do that when I put the jdm one on for the first time too. Well I turned it off to try starting it again, well it started up fine but this time it bogged out like the jdm dizzy did.

Well I started to try different wire pinouts. I know that if I cross the two white wires the car wont start, so I tried crossing the peach and peach/blue wires. It started up but was acting the same. Well anyways I tried leaving one of the white wires off, started it up and it runs and revs just fine constantly, so this has been my problem all along. Looking at the plug on the dizzy with the catch down I counted them left to right 1 peach,2 white,3 N/A and the next row 4 peach/blue,5 white/blue,6 white it was the # 2 white pin that was causing all the problems.

So to answer my original question yes you can use an SI dizzy on a dpfi setup. This has been a big pain trying to figure out why this wasn't working. I am going to try to swap out the dpfi for the mpfi again this w/e and hope that finally I can get it to work. I just hope this helps anyone with the same problem.
