I am having a problem on my 98 cherokee with the 4.0L 6 cyl engine. The engine jerked or shut off for a split second when hitting a bump in the road at 60 mph. Then it started to happen at low speeds when hitting a bump. A transmission repair shop could not find any problems, so I took it to the dealer. They found the fuel pressure to drop when hitting a bump and replaced the fuel pump. I drove home without any problems, but it acted up the next day. Does anyone have any ideas? Is this an electrical short or some sensor that is going out? No error codes are generated. Thanks.

Look at your crank position sensor. It may have a loose connection, also check ALL of your electrical connections under the hood.

I think I found the problem. I started checking wiring from the gas tank and the engine started sputtering when I touched the oxygen sensor on the convertor. Now I have to see what I can get back from the dealer on the $570 fuel pump install they did. I will hopefully get the labor cost back. Thanks.
