There's really no way to be sure. Are you willing to take his word for it that he'll get it legalized?
Then again, I just noticed it's a '97. I'm not sure if Motorex has resumed doing work on '96+ models.

Well, $15k is the minimum that Motorex charges just for legalizing a Skyline. However, this guy says he can get you a legalized car for that much.
According to Motorex's pricing, it should really be $25k for legalization since the car is newer than 1996. I think maybe, just maybe the eBay car just might fall under the category of 'too good to be true.' :uhoh:
If Motorex still isn't legalizing 96+ Skylines, then it doesn't matter how you pay for it. The guy can't get the car legalized, so if you buy it anyway, you're up the creek without even a boat. Not only will the car be illegal, but even if you have the money you won't have a way to make it legal...and you'll be stuck with keeping it in the garage or watching it get sent to the crusher.

Why don't you call Motorex and ask if they can legalize a 1997 R33? As far as I know, they can't due to the OBDII requirements, which they have not been able to solve yet...
If the car is legit, he may try to state that it's a 1995 R33 in order to get around the OBDII requirements...
Most likely, the $15K is for the car only and you will have to pay for the legalization separately...
You can still get screwed even if you use PayPal... say you send him the $2K deposit, and then he disappears... you are out $2K with nothing to show for it...

Looking at this on the Ebay page, Item location:
Japan to US, UK and Europe
Japan
I would have to make a guestimate and say that this car is being shipped from Japan. Now, I got Armed Forces friends that just came from being stationed in Japan and told me that they can get Skylines legalized for US specs in Japan. Don't take my word for it but thats what I've been told. Anyway, maybe if the car is in Japan, the guy is having it legalized there, instead of having Motorex do it. Could be the real deal.
Write the guy back and ask him how he is getting the car legalized, who/what company is legalizing it and where is it being legalized, ie what country.

Seriously guys---MOTOREX will NOT SAY that they can do a 96+. They CAN"T. Unless they want more cars sitting around they can't do anything with, they won't touch it. It would be stupid for them to even say they can to a caller.
TO SF--
There are reports from very reliable sources that the "claim it's a 95" trick has been used before by MX, although I haven't seen this with my own eyes, I trust those who said they have.
On the other hand, I don't believe they would be so dumb as to tell anyone who called "oh, yeah, as long as it's a R33 it doesn't matter"....And if someone who answered their phone DID say that, make sure you talk to someone who works there who works in the legalization "department", like Vernon maybe, and make sure that you get a verification from someone up in their organization that they are willing to do that.
They are walking on thin ice if they are doing illegal things. But if they are willing to, then by all means, take them up on it. Accept the risks, and the consequences, for whatever you do.

TO ZAPHOD-
NO ONE but a U.S. Registered Importer can make a Nissan Skyline "street legal" for use in the United States. Simply check the NHTSA website--links are in the stickys.

I dunno, like I said I know guys who just came back from Japan and say that they can get Skylines converted to US specs in Japan.
Anyway, To the author.
Is it a scam? I think so. After writing my reply I figured what the hell I will just email the guy. Heres my email and his response.
My buddy at motorex they are a R.I.( registered importer).
That means they can import Skyline and legalize them like other dealer shop.
If you buy the car from me, I can have him register and legalize the car for you. Extra 3k.
Let me know if interested.
Thanks!
Nick

Sounds like a scam to me. He has a buddy at motorex that will register it for an extra 3,000.00. Bullshit! I have a Skyline. The Navy will ship it to the US, as long as I have an RI. All I need is motorex to convert it. They tell me it will cost 17,000.00 but this guy has a buddy who will do it for 3,000.00. Kiss my ass.
