Power Steering

I've noticed that my steering is getting harder to turn when I'm sitting or moving real slow. The truck is an '01 with the 5.3 and only has 24k on it. Have Tahoes and Suburbans at work that you can steer with your pinky. Any ideas?

The controller for the variable ratio power steering has probably failed. If the truck is still under warranty, take it to the dealer and let them repair it. If it is out of warranty, you might be able to unplug it, and make the steering easier. Atleast you could do that on the 96 thru 98 trucks.

I have an 01 with stick steering at low speeds or stopped too. I have 35's, but it was hard with the 29s too. Any ideas would be great for the 01s

Was the variable ratio steerting an option? I don't think I have it. The only two things I can think of that would affect this are either the pump or the steering box. Everything else is lubed up nicely.

I think the variable ratio is standerd equiptment. It boost the pressure when the truck is moving slow or sitting still, to make steering easy, and reduces pressure at higher speeds.

The previous owner of my 99' Silverado said that his Power Steering pump went and it was doing the same sort of things your is. I wonder if it's possible that maybe your Pump isn't providing enough "pressure" to help.
Just a thought anyways.
