best bov location

we went over this before but i just wanted to clear it up before i started ordering and building stuff. this months sport compact mag has a 9 sec supra on it... with its bov placed before the FMIC on the piping coming from the turbo. i think it was kevin who said he was going to try this and i was wondering if its any better than placing it on the UICP before the TB. when you think about it... the turbo is pushing air towards the TB so when the TB closes all that air would "bounce" off and come back toward the turbo. so w0ould it be better to place the bov farther from the tb so that it would release the "wave" of air before it could counter the turbo? this all depends on it the air even does bounce off the tb and how fast the wave would travel. if it travels fast, then if the bov was near the tb it might miss some but if it travels slow it woudl be better to place near the tb. any ideas? or am i just a dumbass because the piping would be pressurized so there would be no "wave"

You're pretty much right on. I do have my BOV before the FMIC now. It doenst open on time. It seems to take some time for the reverse pressure wave to get back to the turbo, even though the pressure causing the problem originates AT the turbo. I'm going to try a softer spring and see if that helps. IF it doesnt, I'm going to have to find a way to move it to the UICP again. Or even easier, I'll just stop lifting when I shit. Still be a pain in the ass for the street though. Then again, it takes a serious effort to spool this turbo, so I may harldy ever be in boost on the street...

I would keep it in the UICP to keep things simple. :)

Wrong!!! The bov should be placed as close as possible to the TB. That is where the air has to pump against the closed throttle plate when it is closed, so the best location would be right near the TB. But the stock location is perfectly fine. Trust me, you dont want you turbo to backspin on ya. Things can suck if that happens.

to spool waht turbo? your sbr 20g?

Once again I have to say.. don't post unless you know what you are talking about. The reasons for BOV placement are not up for discussion, they are already searchable topics.

The question was if Kevin preferred his new method or not, and he said that after the FMIC is still the best place for most people.

To continue this thought, I've decided to try to move the BOV to the UICP. I planned to try a softer spring first, but I have all the parts on hand to move it so I might as well. On top of that, I plan to go to a 3" Mustang throttlebody, and if the BOV isnt super-effective I'll be snapping the weak ass shafts like toothpicks ruining more motors, heads, and turbos. No thanks, I'll move it :D
