Homelink Universal Transmitter w/ 3 bottom:
1, erase previously memory by holding the two outside buttons for about 20 sec until the red light flashes.
2, hold the end of the garage door opener remote control 2 to 5 inches from the homelink transmitter. Make sure nothing is blocking.
3, select the transmitter button you want.
4, press the button on the remote control and the button on the transmitter at the same time. Hold down both buttoms.
5, The red light in the transmitter should begin flashing. it will flash slowly at first, then rapidly.
6, When the red light flashes rapidly, release both button. The transmitter should have learned the code from the remote contorl.
Now you all set...

I just did mine this morning (I bought a 2001 CLS yesterday). the above directions are good, just note that you have to hold the buttons longer than you would expect. Also, my garage door apparently is a revolving code (or something to that effect). so, If you do the above directions and it dosent work, then and the following steps:
1. (after you have programed car remote) press the "program" button on your garage door, the light will blink for approximately 30 seconds, in that time jump in your car and press the button you have previously programed.
2. press your programed button again. this turns off your garage door's program function.
3. press again to see if it works.
(i think these types of garage doors are pretty common in new homes. we didnt upgrade or anthing & it is what they installed in our home built earlier this year).
good luck.
Side question (a bit ashamed to ask), how do you turn on the fog lights? Not that i drive around with them on all the time, but I cant figure it out. they dont turn on when I turn on the lights, and there is no button or switch i can find.
