Shiv, at Vishnu Performance, recommended that I use gas from the 76 station. After I went there I was amazed by how much better my car seemed to run. Here is what Shiv wrote in response to what are the differences between the 76 stations gas, and the other companies.

After some discussions with a Chevron chemist who is a Stg 1 customer of ours, i found out that there are many ways to come to a specific octane. Rated octane is the average of RON (research octane) and MON (motor octane). You can have less of one and more of the other (or visa versa) and still come up with the same octane. The problem is that your motor only really cares about motor octane. So the best combo for any given octane rating would be more motor octane with less research octane. So far, 76 is the king of the hill in this respect. At least this is what the Chevron guy told me. He also runs 76 in his car

Just put Sunoco 93 in the truck last night and I can tell the difference compared to Citgo or Mobil. Citgo seems to be the worst out of the three I regularly use but their 87 octane is usually cheaper then most around here.

Just curious, how well does that Solara run Ultimate X? I've seen some of them run 14's in the magazines. Does it fare well against the 240hp altima?

never use arco if you care about your car...they commonly add water at all the pumps i've even been to.

But USA gas (strangly) seems to run better, and its cheeper than most

76 I notice defentally runs well, same with Chevron.

all the others are fair to poor as piss.

But thats good to know about RON and MON, thanks for the tip off! :icon16:

I have two 76 stations near me, the one closest to me is where I fill up 99% of the time.

The one that's a bit farther, about a mile away, carries 110 octane.

w00t.

in the early 90s 100 octane was usually the low grade gasoline @ like 90cents a gallon.. now 87octane gas is $1.79.... i hate corporate America

Ask Shiv how his moon dyno is working after you take his fuel advice.

"Holy crap, I made .34 WHP on the Vishnu Dyno for only 2k".

Well, Shiv makes all sorts of claims about power that is smog legal, charges an assload of money to tune on his moon dyno only to see minor gains, then calls DSMers "salty internet nerds" when we pointed this out. He went as far as to claim that we can only go fast in a straight line.

He then proceeds to back down from open challenges from MANY DSMers.

All of the Tuners threads are locked due to MULTIPLE rule infractions, but they make a good read.

I haven't seen any 76 stations around here. I use Sunoco 94, if I absolutely have to go to a diff station (if I'm on the road or something like that), it's usually Chevron. I usually run 110 at the track, altho now with the intercooler I'm gonna run 104
