S-10 Hesitation

2001 S-10
On hot, humid days when I am running the a/c, the engine will stall and buck when I try to accelerate but does not die.
Only once has it happened when the a/c was not running, but I had run the a/c earlier during that trip.
This is usually, but not always, accompanied by the Check Engine light.
If I shut the engine off and restart it, it goes away everytime.
It didn't seem like that big of a deal until I nearly got killed when it hesitated while I was crossing a highway.
Any ideas?

Any ideas?I've been dealing with the same problem for 3 years now, and still haven't figured it out! I have a 2000 S-10 with the 2.2 automatic 2wd. It's to the point that I am afraid to run the A/C. I really don't think the A/C is the reason for the hesitation, but the increased engine compartment temp generated by the use of the A/C is probably a contributing factor. It has the symptoms of vapor lock, and I do the same as you. I put it in neutral, turn the engine off for a few seconds, then restart and everything is fine.
My check engine light comes on and off frequently. I have a PDA with a connector to the OBD II and the code that usually appears is a "slip code". I'm thinking that maybe all this trouble is being caused by either the throttle postion solenoid, or a vehicle speed sensor or the TCC solenoid on the transmission. I'm just guessing here, I am not a certified mechanic, but I have a general idea how the computer is controlling every little thing.
Just today while on my 50+ mile commute to work, the ABS light came on. After that, the break warning light would come on and off every 10-20 seconds with no pattern, and no problem with breaking whatsoever. I checked the brake fluid and all the fuses for the ABS and everything was fine. It also lit up the check engine light, but I haven't checked out the code yet.
Another problem I have been experiencing lately is the sudden loss of overdrive after 30 or so miles on the highway at a sustained 70 mph. I fix that problem the same way I do the hesitation, put in neutral, turn off the engine and then restart and everything is back to normal. I will be changing the trans filter and fluid tomorrow tosee if that helps. I do have 116,000 miles on my 2000, I guess its time.
Hopefully between us and others out there who are experiencing the same problems, we can find a remedy. If not I will be trading this piece of crap in for a '04. Maybe Chevy fixed the inherent problems by now.
Anybody out ther have a clue?
