Make a fastback out of a coupe

Just wondering if any of the people who do body work can asnwer a question for me. I want to buy a 67-68 fastback, but people are asking ridiculous amounts for the most trashed out fastbacks, and the decent ones are FAR beyond monetary reach. However, I can afford to buy a coupe, and a fastback shell. Can the coupe shell be removed and replace with a fiberglass fastback body? I'm what you call a fast learner, so if it is possible, then I can manage it, but I want to know before I throw my money on the line. (I'm not worried about the fact that it's won't really be a fastback, it'll be a fastback in my mind and that's where it really count's). I'm sure with enough money anything is possible. I actually saw a Camaro with 2 axles the other day. Just driving down the Dolphin Expressway with 6 tires.

The fiberglass body is for race cars with custom built frames. The Mustang is a unibody car which means the body panels, roof, etc is a supporting structure. Removing the body will leave you a frame that's as solid as a sheet of plywood, and the fiberglass won't support the loads.

Its the Eleanor legacy. Prices should level off eventually though. You *could* chop off the top and put in a fiberglass fastback roof, but 008 is right. You would have to do a LOT to stiffen the car, more than what origional convertalbes had, then you'd still be taking a huge chance.

I am thinking of a fastback roof swap myself and want to know if i can buy new parts or do i need a donor for the inner structure? and if i need a donor where should i cut?

I remember reading about a guy who did the conversion with a trashed fastback and a coupe. All you will need is a roof line, so if you can find one of those cheap it will make it a whole lot easier then using a fiberglass one.
