CA18DET to SR20DET wiring . . .

Before anyone shoots me down, I did read the FAQ and trawled through the posts for a couple of hours without any luck...

I live in South Africa and own a S13 200SX (the 180SX in the USA). I am removing the CA18DET and manual box (which are going into a 68 Ford Anglia), in favour of a SR20DET. (If i can find an RB25DET, that'll go on but they are impossible to get here in Deepest Darkest Africa... :rolleyes: ). Red top (ZAR5000 / $850) or black top ($1900) doesn't matter, but what does concern me is the wiring harness (you guys maybe call it a wiring loom, I dunno). All the engine importers here supply em without harnesses, and I need to know if it's compatible with the existing one (mechanicals I'm great with, electrical stuff I aint). If not, do I have to buy a OE replacement, or is there an aftermarket solution?

Obviously, I'll need one for the Anglia as well, but a new CA harness is like half the price of a SR harness.

I'd try and find someone with an SR harness, our cars are 240SX and we don't get the CA or SR, so we usually get an SR harness...

Yeah, that's probably what I'll have to do. A SR harness is around $560, almost as much as the engine itself. And further down the line, there will be extensive engine modifications so I'll need a piggyback ECU. I was just wondering if I could preempt that step and get a standalone system now.

Out of interest, there are quite a few 400hp CA18DETs running around here, they're very popular in the local tuning scene. The SR, for some reason, is hardly ever used. Weird.

Thats good, I want to eventually do a CA myself... Everyone here does SR, and hardly anyone pushes more than 250-300whp...

isnt a Haltech with a flying lead only 1500?

if your going to want an ECU down the road it might just be better to get that right off the bat. tune for whatever parts you get... no more MAF sensor... that would probably be better than having to modify a 650$ stock one just to hack it up later for piggybacks

Haltech, huh? The good thing is they are an Australian company, which means their products will be available in my country. Sweet. If anyone can suggest some alternative brands, so I can do some research, please let me know . . .
