main bearings fix - HELP

my 86 supra main bearings broke, now should i rebuild the engine or what? whats the best way to fix this engine? And how much would it cost including labor and stuff... thanks

if you know how to do the engine work yourself...rebuild it to be a good strong motor capable of handling lots-o-boost...thats if the main bearing breaking didnt cause you block to get messed up any.

if you dont know how to do engine work yourself...start looking for a 1jz or 2jz to drop in...

I hope that was a joke, why on earth would you tell him to try and swap in a 1jz or 2jz, the swap is a far cry from drop-in. Now, is this an 86, or an 86.5 Supra, there is a difference. If by main bearing breaking you mean rod-knock then take it to a machine shop, have them see if they can machine the crank and rod ends round and back into specs for oversized bearings. You basicly have three options, either rebuild what you have now, buy an imported JDM engine (5m or 7m depending on which model it is), or buy another mid-milage or already rebuilt USDM engine. All are around the same price ($750-$1000) so the choice is up to you, rebuild the motor and have a brand new engine, or simply drop in a low-milage jdm.

sorry...like ive said before...im not too great with the older supras...ive only worked on mkiv's. id love to learn mkiii and get one of my own. ive just heard a lot of people wanting to swing a 1jz or 2jz over in theirs.

i blew my hg and had some big end bearings go but i rebuilt the motor myself... i find far more reliable than getting another second hand motor... but then again thats in nz.. not sure how costly or sensible it is to do it there... could be your engines a cheep to get hehe
it cost me bout $1000 for all new parts.. rings, bearings, water pump etc etc to fully rebuild my engine and put her back together, hate to think what a mechanic would charge me to do this
my 2c ;) but hell yeaaaa stay with 7m power :D
