Speedometer winter problem

Hi all,

My speedometer has some problem during winter and if I bang it hard enough it's kinda fix it but last winter it did not turn out so well. When the heater is on long enough it seems to fix itself, and it's ok in other season too.

So it seems like it's temperature dependent and problem is in the cluster. Is it possible that it's the speed sensor? Any suggestion?

My speedo (93 Si) has the exact same symptoms, but now is not working more than it is working. It used to come on when the cab was to a certain temp. Sending unit on transmission has been replaced. I'm looking at replacing the speedo or the cluster. Any luck with yours??

Don't have the money yet to replace the speedo. In addition, is it illegal to change the speedo with different mileage?
If I search in google most people suggest to reflow the solder joints in the back fo the speedo. Maybe I'll do that this december (so that I know the effects)

There's nothing illegal about changing the spedometer on a vehicle, what is illegal is if the odometer is not accurate, but is sold as being accurate- i.e. selling a car with 123,540 miles on it as one that only has 23,540 miles on it (on a car with no hundred-thousand-mile place on the odometer). if you replace the cluster/odometer in a car, you can either get one with lower milage and advance it to the correct settings, or make a note of the difference in milage, so you can have an accurate account of how many miles the car has driven.

If he has a cold solder joint, resoldering the connections may help. however, this might just be a "honda thing"- my turn signal return clicker stops working when it gets cold... apparently that's pretty common, and i learned to live with it. a little annoying at first though :rolleyes:
