I recently was given a rare 1989 S-10 Cameo edition and have been plagued with problems.
Frst off the gas mileage is horrible on the 4.3 throttle body piece of work. I was told by a few people that the MAF sensor would even out the airflow getting through the engine and in turn keep the fuel from just dumping into the engine.
Second fuses keep blowing everywhere. The dimmer switch fuse blew today as I was adjusting it. Over the past month I have replaced about 20 15amp fuses for the turn signals and headlight reminder.
Finally the last bug is annoying quart of oil I'm losing every week. I can see the oil getting burn and blow out when I start it up everytime. It blow whitish blue smoke. Where could this problem be coming from. My father a 26 year mechanic told me to change the PCV valve and I did. That only kept the oil from gettin sucked into the throttle body but it is still burning from somewhere. If anyone can help me with any of these problems let me know.

The 4.3L engine isn't known for good milage. And if it's burning that much oil it's probably worn out anyways. I would get your mechanic dad to do a leakdown test. Knowing chevy motors you might be able to just get a new cam, lifters, and replace the valve seals.

My 2.8L engine was rebuilt after 97, and when I bought the truck 2 months ao the engine was already fried. Regular oil changes would have probably kept the truck going.

As for the electrical, the best thing to do is unplug one of the things that the fuse runs. If it still blows plug that item back in, and try another item.

If it doesn't blow you can probably trace the wires back, and find a bare wire patch somewhere.

Wiring is probably the easiest mechanical thing to work on, but you have to be very patient. If you get frusterated I would recomend that you give up on it, and try again tomorrow.

Good luck
