project car

ok i am lookin 4 a project car that i will complete over the next few years as i finish my engineering degree... i am looking for a small rear wheel drive car and it is a rebuild not bolt on mods. i have yet to decide on a car but i have a few ideas and was wondering what you thought of them....


-datsun (1600, 1200)
-Ford escort MK 1
-BMW 3 series from the mid 80's (old 5 series is a remote option)
-old corolla... KE25 (2 door), KE30 (2 or 4 door), KE35 (2 door), KE55 (sedan, 2 or 4 door, not hardtop coupe), KE70 (4 door)
-1st Gen celica TA22 coupe


i would like your feedback and if you are knowledgable about any of these cars please tell me the good/bad things about them (except engine and transmission which will almost definately be changed..)

also if there is another car you think is suitable post it 2.... and tell me why i should choose it. i am not just posting this for the sake of it i am really looking to buy and build up one of these cars. any feedback/advice would be appreciated.

what kind of racing do you think you will be doing.

i plan i buying a fiero (dont laugh) and putting a 350 in the back. i would love to get a mk1 mr2. that would be a fun project car.

real race cars have motors in the back

umm nah its gonna be street legal, and an all round street, circuit, autoX car NOT drag thats why it wont have much power.
