sounds like good ideas in the works...

if his tire pops and he doesn't know it and continues to spin the wheels, it will wreck his rim if the tire disintegrates.

what most people do is put a shitty set of steel rims on the back, just in case something happens.

not that i'm condoning this or anything...

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Don't buy new tires for a burn out!!!!!
Whats wrong with your friend? Is he made of money?
Go to various tire dealerships. They always have a big stack of scrap tires out back that are to be recyled. You can often find lots of tires your size with good tread on them. Some might need a plug, some might be a bit wobbly at highway speed, so thats why they have been removed.
However, they are FREE.
BTW I have blazed away for more than 2 minutes on tires that were less than half tread. You can get LOTS of smoke from used tires.

I was being funny.

Besides, YOU try reading what he said:

He specifically says he will blaze the NEW ones. But this would be retarded, thats why my post is (should be) funny.

sounds to me like he is burning up the old ones as well? It does need a little bit of punctuation help but I do believe it says he is burning up the old ones.

Tell him to keep an eye on the engine temp gauge.

if it starts to get to hot STOP

seen soo many blown engines and burst radiators from people not knowing when to stop. But if he has the $$$$$ for a new engine etc. then go for broke.

Increase the tire pressure a little bellow it's max, it might make it easier on the drivetrain.

Just so you know, doing a burnout does'nt only damage tires, it can damage your axles/drivetrain and as mentioned before...it can screw up your engine. Burn wisely.

AND DON'T SHIFT PAST SECOND

Iv seen guards ripped off the side of cars after tyres have disintergrated doing a burn out.

And of course the extra loading on your diff is huge, espcialy if its an open one. The spider gears get super hot, easily enough to over heat the oil, and in extreme cases weld them together, at which point things break and parts like to go flying out of the transmission case.

Iv even seen a locked diff with a 1 inch hole it in after the weld broke and part of one of the spider gears went through the dif housing.

And you don't know what it does to the clutch packs in mechanical LSDs, or the fluid in viscous ones.

Burns are a lot of fun do and watch, but only when its someone elses car.

if the tire pops, and he keeps on burning out, of course the rims are going to disintegrate.

Rarkies are boring. No skill in it, just a lot of smoke.

Boring. Bring on the handbrake turns. At least those have relevance to driving.

One of my dumbass friends tried to do a brakestand on his GT mustang, except he put it in 3rd instead of 1st just before he dumped the clutch and stood on the brake. He blew the clutch when he did this, he thought all the smoke was coming from the wheels but it was really coming from the transmission...

What we do sometimes is take a couple litres of motor oil and put them on the tires when a brakestand is going on. One of my friends will get them lit up and we'll run up and pour oil all over the tires. That way you can sit there for like 5 minutes and smoke 'em. The smoke it creates is simply unbelieveable...

My dad had an old Dodge Volare wagon that he wanted to kill before he got rid of it. Blowing the engine seemed like a great way to send it off, and putting a brick on the go pedal wasn't good enough for him.... :grinno:

He parked it in the driveway, pinched the rear brakes with vice grips, poured tranny fluid all over the rear tires, and proceeded to do the the most wicked burnout I've ever seen. :evillol: The smoked billowed out, smelled like hell, and after a while, my brother and I couldn't see the house. Then we heard a loud BANG! and shortly after, another loud BANG! We thought for sure he killed it. :smokin:

Turns out, all that happened was he blew out both rear tires.... took more than a few minutes to do.... He shut the car off, and was disappointed that the engine didn't blow. After the smoke had cleared, we found burnt rubber strewn up the garage doors, and deep divots in the driveway underneath the shredded remains on the rims

My uncle ended up buying the car, and drove it for another 2 years.

IT WAS THE STA-WAG THAT WOULD NOT DIE!!! (until my uncle flipped it)

...one of my favorite childhood memories

What's the technique for a good handbrake turn? it's a RWD manual.

I got an 81 toyota pickup with a 5 inch lift and 35 inch tires. Its got a 350 and a turbo auto. In the rear there is a detroit locker. I think you can picture the smoke shows that happen with that truck. The skid marks are over a foot wide and are soooo stunning to see in the parking lot of my school.

You must be getting old! http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/eek7.gif

Drive in a straight line at about 20km in 1st gear.
Turn the wheel sharply to one side.
As you feel the weight begin to transfer (happens very quickly) pull up the hand brake as hard as you can.
As the car rotates to about 170deg release the hand brake and stand hard on the gas.
Apply counter steer if nessacry.

And MAKE SURE you have lots of room, get it right and the car will rotate in its own length, get it wrong and you'll end up in a ditch.

Ever heard the expression, 'Pictures or it didn't happen?'

I've a feeling that this might belong in another current OT thread.

last summer about 2 months after i got my R6 i did a burnout in front of my house and it left a trail of little rubber beads up the sidewalk and onto the screen door... funniest shit i have ever seen! it stayed there for a good 3 weeks until the rain washed most of it away then it was hardly noticeable... i'll look for the pic and i'll post it up!
