Just a quick question, probably a stupid one, but if the gen3 ecu has no afm would I be able to plug that ecu in my gen2 if i took out the afm wire to the ecu and the afm itself?? Just a thought. Thanks.

No.

You would need the whole speed density system, not just the ECU.
You have to have a way to measure the amount of air coming into the engine.

oh. Is there any possible way to get the gen3 ecu to work in gen2??

With enough time and money anything is possible.
My question would be, why would you want to?

If your goal is to get rid of the AFM, just buy a VPC or go all out and get a EMS system.

I can't imagine what you would have to go through to get the gen3 ECU to work. Keep in mind that those engines do not have the EGR system (and who knows what else is different) which I suspect would make all of the timing/fuel maps different.

I wouldn't go near this project with a 10 foot pole.

if you get the MAP and MAT from the gen 3 i d't see why you couldn't get it to work, thats the main difference, i'll let you know if i find (or remember) any more cause i've been studying pinout diagrams for the last week!

Cool, thanks! cuz I have a gen3 ecu just lying around and I am debating whether or not to sell it.
