In the quest for more traction ...

In the quest for more traction and faster times, I am buying as set of the lightweight drag racing rims that mister3 has the group buy on.

They are 15X8" in the rear (10 lbs) and the fronts are 15X4s (7 lbs).
Although I do not have the rims yet (should be soon), I went ahead and bought new tires for them ;)

I got 275/50/15s BFGoodrich g-Force T/As (tread pattern 2).
I am selling my 255/50/16 Drag Radials & the Enkei rims they are attached too.

I thought you all might enjoy seeing the relative size of these set ups.

Dude, my girlfriends dad was looking over my shoulder while I was reading this and he was lilke "no way those 17"s can fit into stock wheel wells", are your wells enlarged or stock?

Ironically, the 17's are the smallest ones you see there. The big tires are for the 15" rims I am buying.

My wheels have not been modified at all.
The only thing that was done, is the inner lip of the fender was bent up. That 1/2" little tab of metal that goes around the inside of the fender .... other than that, it's all stock.
The car was also lowered over 1.5" so the space underneath is even smaller ;)

I am hoping this extra traction + the lightweight smaller wheels up front + the extra 44 rwhp I just got will = fronts wheels off the ground :D

Wheelstands, here we come! And are your new wheels stock offset?

The new wheels are a special order item that one of the dealers in the MR2 world is having special made. They are only making 8 sets (incredibly light).
The widths (15X4 front and 15X8 rear) are all being made specifically for the second gen MR2. I have no idea what the off sets are, but I have been assured that those tires will fit.

We'll see :)

11.5s ... I hope!

Well, those wheelstand are not all they are cracked up to be! If they get too radical, then the car will be nearly impossible to drive, lol.

Anyways, you look very close in that picture, so I'm sure the extra traction will get ya there (you're not going to be able to tell a difference in side the car, this weekend when I drove our race car, they-my uncle and dad-said the left front tire was about a foot off the ground, but I could'nt tell any difference in when it left then when it was at half track from inside the car). But I have a question: Why not just buy real slicks?

Why not slicks? .... great question :)

I run the NHRA Street RWD class and the NDRA Turbo4 class, both require a DOT approved tire.
Plus, I do not trailer my car so I need a DOT legal tire to drive on to get to the track ;)
