Burning oil

Here is the story. My bro just bought a 91 SI for $1700. it is clean inside and out (other than a dent on passenger side). the problem is that it burns oil like a mofo. its got custom straight piping with no muffler.so as you could imagine it is loud as hell. my question is will it have a hard time passing smog due to oil being burnt internally? my bro dont know shit about hondas. i think it could be valve seals. hopefully it is not his piston rings.

maybe ur oil pan is leaking - u probably need a valve job and new heads and replace the gaskets n all that great stuff...

valve seal treatments and highmilage oil tend to help a bit, but replacing the valve seals all together isn't a bad idea.

i think it has something to do with having engines with such long lives tho, volkswagens tend to use a lot of oil too
