Camaro won't start right away

It takes at least 2 tries before my car will start up. It has a brand new starter so im not sure why this happens. I put it in nuetral, give it gas while trying to start it and still no luck. I don't know much about cars and this is my first one. Any advice would be great.

pump the gas while it's cranking. if that doesn't work, hold it to the floor

I have tried pumping, holding, and anything else I can think of to the gas when trying to start.

my car does the same thing. I suspect fuel delivery issues but it hasn't bothered me enough to investigate (especially since I'm dropping a new engine in less than a month). Check your gas cap, it might be worn and time for a new one. If gas cap does not maintain fuel pressure, car will be hard to start, until fuel pressure builds up. Also try turning the ignition on (NOT to the start position, turn it until the check eninge light comes on) wait a few seconds, turn it off, then do it again, then start it. When you turn the ignition on, the fuel pump starts to build pressure. Doing this twice should allow a sufficient amount of pressure to make a good start. If it starts up better after you do this then you should consider a fuel system flush/cleaning or a new fuel pump. Old/dirty spark plugs could be the culprit too.

Your Camaro has a carburetor so tank pressure and turning the ignition on and waiting for pressure to build up will have no effect. Look into the carb and rotate the throttle linkage to make sure your accelerator pump is working. If it is working properly one pump of the gas is all it takes to make an otherwise properly operating engine to fire immediately.

i agree with nina, you could also try buying a can of aerosul gum cutter or carb cleaner at the local parts store, have someone crank the engine while you spray that into the throttle bores, if the engine fires, you have a fuel delilvery problem. could be a bad pump, could be a clogged fuel filter, or your gas guage could be faulty and you are out of gas, not bein mean, ive seen it several times. on newer cars as well.
