ok, this morning at 8am i took my car to get repaired (as most of you already know, i've been having clutch trouble...grinding between 1st-2nd, mushy clutch, etc etc)...anyway i took it in today to have the pressure plate replaced because my mechanic thought it could be that...well at 4pm this afternoon i went down there to see what was up...tranny was out and everything was torn apart...i go to talk to my mechanic to see how it was going...

me - "so...what's the update?"
mech - "not looking so good..."
me - "uh oh now what's wrong with it"
mech - (in kind of a joking voice) "do you side-step that clutch from every stop?"
me - "no why?" (and i was being honest)
mech - "well let's see...i thought it was your pressure plate, but your pressure plate is the best piece on the whole clutch assembly...your clutch plate is purple, your flywheel is purple and your t/o bearing is shattered into 8 pieces."
me - "oh...damn"
mech - "yeah but don't worry, i got your flywheel and your t/o bearing coming in next week...those parts were still under warranty...the clutch unfortunately isn't"

so i'm without a car for about a week or so :(

Be thankful that most of the parts were under warranty! A clutch is just a maintenance item in itself, so it is just sooner rather than later. Take care of that baby now that it will be brand new...no more burnouts @ 5500rpm :naughty: :grinno:

You know it's the best feeling in the world when you get the car back after not driving it for a week or more though ;)

Lol joe, I know what you mean! I just got back from a 1 week vacation with the family a few days ago, and boy was it nice the first time I drove the gsx again! :)

the thing is.....i never drove it that hard to break it....it was the asshole who "borrowed" my car for 3 weeks when i wrecked it...he said he'd fix it all up for me..do all the body work and everything....turns out, all he did was just beat the HELL out of it from what i've seen and from what people have told me...he did no work to it at all when i got it back...but anyway i was thinking about getting the centerforce clutch. i mean my tranny is dropped out of my car as of right now awaiting its new parts (flywheel, t/o bearing and pressure plate)....so i'm thinking, monday, i'll go up to summitracing, grab the new clutch, go to my mech and be like "here stick this in, and when the flywheel comes in, just put that in and put her back together....it'd be less for work him too. anyone know anything about the centerforce? i've heared a few good things about it.

Definitely a good chance to upgrade to a stronger clutch. I dont think I would recomend the CF, though I have never run one. Only ACT 2600s. 2100 is also an option for lower powered vehicles and FWDs. There is a lot of clutch review info on tooners and talk. I may go with a custom Spec unit next, or an RPS. Clutches are tricky business, because everyone and his grandma runs a 2600, very little info on other units. And trial and error method is quite expensive ;)

here's some info on the CF....

Generates up to a 90% increase in holding capacity over
stock systems. This clutch/disc set is designed for use with
engines producing 'high horsepower and torque' output, and
any radically altered high performance street vehicles. This
system is also ideally suited for use with four wheel drive
vehicles. All CenterforceŽ clutch systems provide smooth
engagement and light pedal pressure without compromising
high performance.

it sounds like a good clutch...i just need to find someone who has used it with 4g63 to get a better idea...hopefully my mechanic will let me do this swap because all of this work is under warranty. i think with warranty work, all of the oem shit has to be replaced...but i mean it makes perfect sense...he IS replacing the oem flywheel and i mean as long as the tranny is out, might as well slip my mechanic the clutch and be like "here, stick this in there..." i'll find out tomorrow if it'll work or not.

just another update...i talked to my mechanic today and he said that he got me a new clutch :) he told the warranty people that when the t/o bearing blew, it ruined the clutch...so i get a brand new clutch, t/o bearing and flywheel :)
