Horn Problem, 1995 Aurora

My horn works only when the steering wheel is within about +-2.5 degrees of top-dead-center. So, in a turn the horn does not function at all. In fact, if I start honking while going straigh (top-dead-center) and start to turn the horn stops.

I have the factory service manuals for my vehicle. The illustrations are not completely clear and I would prefer to better understand the switch and connection between the wheel and column.

Has anyone pulled your steering wheel? Can you give me a good description of the horn switch/connection?

In this specific case I would appreciate responses from individuals that have personal experience with this problem and have even personally rectified the problem or can provide a very detailed description as to the actions a mechanic took to rectify it.

Thanks

ugsrich,

Try taking off the Horn/AirBag/Stereo assembly first. You will need a Torx bit to remove it. Remove the covers and torx head screws just behind the Stereo and A/C controls on both sides. Gently pull towards you the assembly. You can pull it out about 4-6 inches with all the wires attached. Chech the Red wire with the Black plastic tube with a spring on it. Make sure it is pushed in. If it is loose push it into the hole and turn a 1/4 turn till you feel it snap into place.

If this is not your fix you will need to remove the Steering Wheel to further uncover the problem. You will need a couple of special tools (Steering Wheel Puller & Steering Wheel Lock Plate Remover/Compressor).
