Larger rear brakes

Does anyone know if it is possible to install larger brake pads for the rear brakes in a 1991 Buick regal GS coupe? The existing pads are about as big as 9 volt battery. The rear is clearly underpowered for the size of the car, and I would like to fix this problem. Anyone heard of anything? Thanks.

You definitely can't install bigger pads using your OE braking system.
Your other choice would be to buy pads made of better friction material. I would shoot for carbon metallic or ceramic pads. If you are just looking for better braking in general I would first try using the better pads up front first because they do perform 70-80% of overall braking. If you just put the better pads on the rear you probably wouldn't notice much of a difference.
If you are willing swap parts to improve braking refer to the link below.
