Gear Ratio, what is it?

Hey guys... What is gear ratio?

My 91 Accord always grinds while going into 3rd gear, I know that I'm not the only one with this problem. It's an EX 4door... I'm just wondering if the gear ratio or something like that can be the problem?

gear ratios have nothing to do with tranny noise. Its gotta be the syncros. Gear ratio is like 3:1 meaning it takes 3.16 turns on a gear to spin the other gear 1 time. Oo <-- pretend those are gears. The small one has to spin 3 times to make the big one spin 1 time. Get it? Syncros is what makes all the gears spin the same speed as the engine before it is engaged to prevent that gear grinding sound u hear. Get it? if not then say something and ill attempt to go into depth.
