Hello, one of my friends is selling a 1990 Deville for $500 with 200,000 miles and is in perfect condition... except for the blown head gasket.

Now what I would like to know is if it is worth the $750+ to buy it, get it towed, and buy the parts and tools to fix it? Any imput would be helpful.

I would say definatly yes.but try to talk him down to like 300.not that its not worth 500,its worth more.but if he's dumb enough to take it,why not?

well he said it was his friend, but seriously if he'll take 300 offer, i mean all he has to do is say no. but is it worth it to you for that car. i mean we cant spend your money

and with 200,000 miles other things might go wrong with it. i mean if you cant start it how do you know if it doesnt need more things?

Well, besides normal wear, what else is problematic with these motors?

And I have seen/heard this thing run before the gasket went, and it ran fine. Another detail, it is his father selling it, therefore I don't think I'll try to talk them down, and also there is someone looking at it already, and I don't have $500 yet. So it probably won't matter anyway.
