Hey everyone,
Im getting a turbo really soon and I am just wondering what I would have to do/check on my engine so it can run about 5-7 psi...but my motor has about 135,000k miles on it =P, pretty high but if its only a couple things I can do to make it run fine without buying a new motor well then thats great..please let me know if you know anything.

check to see if your motor has good compression. do a compression test on each cylinder.
what motor is this anyway? if it's a GS-R B18C1 then u might wanna think about puttin in a set of low compression pistons, but if your only gonna be running 5-7 psi, the stock pistons ill be able to handle it.

and u probably wont need to buy a new motor. just build the motor u have in the car right now, i.e. some forged pistons, stronger rods, bearings, and a block guard for extra security

Yeah if your running a GS-R B18C, 7 lbs aint shit for stock motor... thats what my gsr motor is running 7 lbs at 110k miles Hope you got a staged clutch though ^^ cause your stock clutch wont last a week...

LS VTEC OR NON VTEC? If your not an experienced driver I wouldnt go slapping a turbo on just yet. You should always do small upgrades until you can handle that kinda power. Besides if you dont prep your car for a turbo chances are it wont last.

If not you might end up like this guy...

ls/vtec is with a ls block and a gsr head right? if it is then ive heard if its not built right then it wont last very long as a daily driven car.

As far as i know, the LS vtec is a preferred choice, vtec is popular in the honda/acura "street" racing world but i know between the two it wouldn't make a HUGE difference.

ON A SIDE NOTE - not to be a dick but when i started out i was just like you, i had just gotten my 93 3000gt and was going to 'soup it up' and had already bought the 9b td04 twin turbos to do so and was steadily collecting parts for the conversion...then i realized i really needed to learn to drive first, you are ABOUT to get a car, hopefully meaning this will be your FIRST and you really shouldn't be considering this just yet.

I'm your age so i know what its like and how you feel and i sure as hell think about having the sweet swoosh of a turbo and blast of a blow off valve in my car by day but those things wont TOUCH my car until i know i can handle it. Just please, im not trying to prevent you from getting a turbo put in the car you dont have yet but im tired of watching people jump the gun about these kind of performance upgrades.
