it could be either your brakes need to be replaced because they're worn, or because the pads are vibrating in the caliper.

check all your pads to make sure it's not because they're worn.

if all of the pads are still good, then you might consider buying the special glue you spray on between the caliper and the pads.

Thats Some What True. But The Real Reason There Squeeking Is Becuse Of Heat. The Rotors R Getting To Hot. U Need To Have Them Turned. The Surface Of Ur Rotors To The Pads Is To Smooth.(like Glass) This Will Cause Them To Heat Up Quicker. And Also It Depeneds On The Pads Ur Using.

you can't determine that the rotors need to be turned simply becuase the breaks squeek. there are many things that cause the breaks to squeek, it could be warped or worn rotors but it could also be several different things. Like stated before it could simply be the pads vibrating. Unless you inspect the brake system you will not know. If you really don't know what your looking for, becuase you said you don't know much about cars I would suggest taking it to a trustworthy shop.

your not dumb you are right on about the worn rotors, where your wrong is by saying that it is the only definate reason they are squeeking. It is just impossible to pin point it unless your are physically there and because he is realativally new to cars I don't want him paying more to have the rotors resurfaced when it could be something simple and inexpensive.

you cant rule out that most cheaper pads are made of a semi metallic surface ... and sometimes have small filings in the pad itself.. you can also buy shims to put behind the pads to stop noise.

probably brake dust on rotors, that will cause squeeking
