I watched the democratic national convention, yeah i think thats what it was, a week or two ago. Kerry said that her would increase American jobs, and said he would allow canadian prescription drugs to be sold to American citizens....wouldnt this contradict his promise for increasing american jobs? wouldnt it take jobs away from americans who work as pharmicists and drug companies?Just wondering.

Both can be done, pharmacologists will still have jobs, the drugs arent just going to be passed out, you'll still need a perscription just the price of drugs and medical insurance will go down, onlt affecting the demand for biochemists and lobbyists who are usualy qualified and capable to find and preform other jobs. I know the biochemists who graduate from my colege are gaurenteed at least $80k/year as a starting salary with just a bachelors degree at many large pharmacutical companies, they can find some other respectible occupation.

By the same token, should the US not buy resources from Canada because it's possible American companies could provide those resources? Of course not, you want a free market in North America, you got it. :icon16:

Kerry is right that pharmaceuticals should be available here from any country. I don’t like protectionist policies (from anyone). It may affect some jobs, but its not zero sum game. Because one job is not available does not mean that other jobs don't get created. Perhaps a biochemist isn't employed, but a sales representative is.

Only problem I see is that these Canadian drugs are manufactored in the US and sold cheaper in Canada. The same drugs at different prices. Could it be greedy companies at work or is it supply and demand. If everyone started to get the drugs in Canada wouldn't the US drugs get cheaper and Canada's get more expensive!

I agree with Yogs one job may be lost but others would be created.
