crushing 1g bov

I just got my 1g bov today, and I'm about to crush it. How much vacuum should it hold til it opens? I read somewhere that with stock cams, intake manifold vacuum is about 24-25 in Hg. So I was thinking maybe I should only crush it to 20-21 in Hg, just to be on the safe side. Any suggestions? thanks! :)

On a side note, a local DSMer crushed his 1g bov so that it just starts to lift up off the valve seat at 21 in Hg. His seems to work just fine, not too much or too little. I just want to double-check with you guys though =)

Not worth the trouble. Hell I ran 22+ PSI with the stock 14b turbo and I didn't crush the BOV.

I see, well are there any negative effects of crushing it to 21 in Hg? As long as it's not 24 in Hg (manifold vacuum), then I don't see why it should hurt anything. Can someone back this up for me please (Kevin)? :)

I would not crush the bov until you need to. Like 10.5 said, many people swear by the 1g bov up to 21+ psi uncrushed. If you crush it wrong you can mess things up.

Check out this page in the vfaq for a crushing alternative:

Well what kind of things will I mess up if I crush it wrong? And how does one go about crushing it wrong? :)

Well, if you crack it somewhere by crushing it too much, it will leak worse than your stock 2g! I remember seeing tutorials on how to crush them, I just can't find them at the moment. I'm sure Kevin will forward you...

Well I have a vacuum pump w/ guage handy, so I think I might be able to do it right. Are there any other bad things I should look out for while crushing it? Thanks joe, you da man :p
