Actually the miles are not much over average.
If you get a compression check on the engine and it is ok, you should be fairly safe.
I would change all the fluids soon after you buy it and again in 1 year. After that every 2 years unless you off road it in water or mud or pull a trailer.
Lots of these jeeps have 2 or 3 times that mileage and are still going strong.
Just get an independent mechanical opinion and check for accidents and whether or not it was written off.
good luck

i would avoid the V8 if at all possible they have had lots of problem with them if you drive and like i would reccomend you take it to have it looked at either at a jeep dealer or a good independent mechanic

Hi thinmints
My 96 GJC has the 5.2 V8. My only concern with it before I bought it was the gas consumption. I never heard of any concern with the reliability and extra repairs at all.
Now that we have had it for 2 years and 50k miles, I wouldn't have anything else. I've changed the oil & filter regularly, put in new plugs, airfilter, PCV & filter, a battery and changed the serpentine belt. It runs strong and clean with 180,000 Kilometers (110k miles). The power is better than the 4.0L and the fuel consumption is not that much greater for the extra performance. Best fuel consumption we have managed is just over 24 mpg on the canadian equivelent gallon and a round trip average through the mountains of 22.5 mpg including city driving. I can't complain about that as the last car I had with a 4 cylinder would barely get 30 and this is way more fun than the car!!!!
I do agree with you about the inspection and prefer the good independent mechanic choice though the dealer is not a bad idea if you have one that you trust.......

you didn't say what year the JGC was.
the only concern is the 4wd transfer case. If you can, find one with the select track instead of the quad trac.
the select track is the part time 4wd while the quadtrac is an on demand system with the viscous coupler.
some people have more trouble with the quadtrac because they don't understand the way it operates and the need for the maintenance.
Mine has the quadtrac and it has been great. I've changed the oil in it every year and now use the synthetic in it. Hasn't missed a beat in the time I've owned it.
Other than that same concerns as with the last one you looked at.
