Fuel Pressure Release through Gas Cap?

In my holy quest to find an easy way to release fuel pressure without spraying gas all in my face and all over the engine bay, I figured you can just open the gas cap. When you open it, pressure releases, and all signs point to it working like it should...so my question is, does it actually do it? Or is it just tricking you into thinking it does, so when you yank a line you get covered in gas. :) Thanks yall.

what are you planning to do? if you are going to try and change the fuel filter or something, take out the fuel pump fuse in the engine bay and start the car till it dies. then crank it some more and make sure you gas cap is off the whole time.

Yeh i know that way, thanks. That's how I did it initially, but I'm trying to figure out how the best way to do it would be if you couldn't start the car. I'm sure there's 10 good ways but I really just need a yes or no if the gas cap will do it. Thanks dude :)

gas cap only release pressure in the gas tank. However the fuel lines will still have a lot of pressure left.
