Heatsheild thingy

hey guys, i was wondering if my heat shielid\insulation type thing is requried or even stock? mine is all torn up and my air filter is sucking up the yellow insulation part and clogging it constantly and not to mention everythime i open my hood to show off my engine the frist thing people notice is the torn, dangling peices of insulation off my hood and fuzzy yellow air filter. i took it off cuz it was just pure ugliness and just out of curiousty i asked the dealer how much and as usual its overpriced but they told me that my hood will discolor from the heat.......is this true or are they just trying to get me to but one? does anyone else have it under their hood?

well yes and no nobody has a problem with a that on carbon fiber hoods but then again think about how much heat there really is under there

I read some where that carbon fiber hood will not hold paint. Is this true of other carbon fiber body parts and if not, could it be the heat?

It seems to me like the heat shield is there to hold in the heat in much colder places so the engine can start in the morning, my dad told me stories about how his cars in wisconsin would not start up in the morning withought putting a blanket on the engine before night, also he said people would put a tiny light bulb in the engine bay and that would be enough heat to raise the temparature so that the engine could start more easily (and in my car there is just such a tiny light bulb imbeded in the heat shield. Neither of my parents cars have heat shields and they have no discoloration and they are both larger displacement.

That sounds true. holds in the heat so it doesnt heat up the metal on the hood too much.. and keeps the engine from becoming too cold in the winter, but our engines do get really hot, just let it run for a while and try touching somethig :(

Anyways, you guys know the bulb on the hood inside the engine, does your light work? Mine don't.... :( And I don't know why.... The stupid thing is that when I set my alarm and it beeps, the light flashes too. LOL So if you guys know the wiring connection of the light, please let me know. Thanks. :biggrin:
