93 civic - possible elctrical problems?

So the other day, my 93 Civic DX w/213,000 miles on it began bogging down and backfiring after about 20 minutes of driving and then eventually stalled. After 10 minutes or so, it would start. Just before the car began bogging down, the speedometer started acting erratically. It would go way up then back down to the correct speed. Also, the engine light, which has been on for as long as I’ve owned the car (4yrs) shut off right before the car started acting up. (I cannot check the engine code because some genius before me decided to rip out the wiring harness that goes to the computer) The light would go on and off, and the car would only bog down when the light went off, but it still ended with the car stalling.

I took my car to a trusted mechanic, who unfortunately did not have time to look at my car, but suggested it might be the distributor. So I changed my distributor, rotor, cap, plugs, wires, and oxygen sensor for good measure. I took it for a drive but nothing changed, except that this time the engine light didn’t come on until the car started acting up. The speedometer was also still going crazy. So I made it back to my garage, shut it off for a few minutes, then tried starting it and now it only turns over, and the engine light will only dimly light at best. I know the engine light is supposed to come on initially when the key is first turned on, but it barely lights even then.

Any ideas?

hmmm... Maybe the ignition time is incorrect, or the fuel filter maybe clogged. Your speed sensor maybe going bad and may have to be replaced. Check the computer is it plugged in correctly. You could also have a bad altenator. Check the Battery connection. If it were me I would get a new harness or I would try and find the wire that the previous owner cut and fix it. Hope that helps.
